This Friday is the closing date for entries of participants to the Kilkenny city St Patrick’s Day parade.
To mark the theme of this year’s parade, “Celebrating Kilkenny’s Gaelic Games, Heritage and Spirit,” giant hurleys are already stored away ready to celebrate the pride that local GAA giants have brought to Kilkenny people in recent years and over the decades.
The 2011 team captain, Brian Hogan, with the McCarthy Cup along with his peers from over 40 local GAA clubs will lead the parade at 2pm on March 17 with banners, streamers and flags.
Details are available on www.kilkennytourism.ie.
Outdoor entertainment before and after the parade will take place at the Parade Plaza, kicking off with a free performance by the Notre Dame University Band (The Fighting Irish) at 11am on March 16, and continuing from 12.30pm on March 17 with live music, outdoor film screening and vox-pop interviews by the Young Irish Film Makers along with fare from the Kilkenny Food Trail.
Celebrations will conclude at 6.30pm with performances by the Miami Show Band and the Swinging Blue Cats.
