Southend-U13 The lads were away to Stoneyford in their last game on Wednesday night. The game started evenly with not a lot of chances for either team but late in the half after the ball broke out from the Stoneyford goal a great strike from Eoin Kenneally put them one up at the break. Early in the second half they were two up after a great header from John Shortall gave their keeper no chance. After this they came under pressure and Stoneyford levelled with two good goals. Final score 2-2.
U12 soccer: The boys finished their league campaign with a home game against Fort Rangers last Saturday. They got off to a great start when Eoin Walsh got to the by-line and squared for Jamie Reid to tap home after only four minutes. Fort fought their way back in to the game and equalised to leave the scores level at half-time. The second half was dominated by defences with both sides failing to find a winner and the game finished 1-1.
The u 13 team won the Div 2 league and the u 12 team finished high up the table in Div 1 which is a great achievement for the club. The club would like to thank the players and their parents for all the support and effort during the year.
Shamrocks-The Shamrocks had a great game against Dunamaggin up in Hugginstown at the weekend. In a game in which everyone played well there were still some standout performances from Joey Holden, Eamonn Walsh, TJ Reid, Paddy Reid and Colin Fennelly. Richie Reid started in goal while towards the end Enda Fitzpatrick, Conor Walsh and Eoin Doyle got some game time.
The highlight of the game for Kilkenny supporters was that Noel Hickey played the match – and of course that our very own Henry Shefflin came on as a second half sub, a game earlier than expected, and scored two points from play!
The final score of 5-18 to 2-8 is a reflection of how well everything went on the day for the players rather than the difference between the two teams. It was a tough match all the same.
We can now hopefully look forward to Henry either making a lengthier appearance or possibly even starting in the next round!
