Junior Hurling-Blacks and Whites suffered their first defeat of the junior hurling league championship when they went down to Thomastown in Thomastown on Sunday evening. After a slow start which saw them trail 0-03 to 0-00, the skeough lads found their way onto the scoreboard through a long range James Brennan free and further points from M Moloney, Brian Barcoe, Niall Kennedy and M Moloney (Gurteen) kept skeough in touch. Thomastown were finding space and scores that bit easier but when shane murphy was hauled down in the square for a penalty it gave Niall Kennedy the opportunity to close the gap and that he did leaving the half time score Thomastown 0-13 B&W 1-05. The second half saw skeough find their grove and some great points from Michael Moloney (2) and Brian Barcoe narrowed the gap to within two and skeough were pushing for the victory. However a mistake in the skeough defence allowed thomastown attacker Derek Lanigan get in unchallenged and finished to the net. This gave thomastown a great boost and from there they never looked like loosing and finished with plenty to spare on a scoreline of Thomastwon 1-18 B&W 1-10. Team: J O Grady, P Joyce, S Kealy, J Lawlor, A O Dowd, J Brennan, M Doyle, P Cleere, P Murphy, M Moloney (Gurteen), M Moloney, N Kennedy, J Lennon, S Murphy, B Barcoe. Subs: T Farrell, K Fitzpatrick, M Doyle, J Murphy.
