Shane wins Kathleen’s prize with a dazzling 72

Golf - On Saturday the Ballyhale Golf Society held their Captain’s Day (Mrs Kathleen Hession) in Carlow Golf Club. It was a beautiful day with a large number of people taking part, and was followed later on that evening with Captain’s dinner in Carroll’s Hotel in Knocktopher. Carmel would like to take this opportunity to thank Carroll’s for the beautiful meal they served.  Following the meal the prize-giving took place and the winners were: Front nine Alan Hoyne; Back nine Austin Brownrigg; nearest the pin was John Byrne; Longest Drive went to Dermot Fennelly;Past Captain was won by John Byrne; 4th  Michael Hoyne; 3rd  Jimmy Fitzpatrick; Best Gross Ted Hoyne; 2nd Aisling Costelloe and the winner on the day was Shane Kelly with a fabulous score of 72 nett playing off 11 on a very challenging course. Carmel would like to congratulate all the prize winners and in doing so also thank Carlow Golf Club for all their help in preparation for this day. Kathleen thanked all for playing and for making this such an enjoyable and memorable day, and they look forward to their Presidents Day which is coming up the 18 August so keep this date in your diary.

Fun Day - The Ballyhale Family Fun weekend will take place on 11 and 12 August in Ballyhale. A huge number of events are planned. Some of these are turn up and take part but others have places which need to be booked. Among the events are the Aylward Cup, 6-a-side-soccer, a teenage disco (all Saturday). There will also be road hurling, Golf Putting, Children’s activities, soccer finals, live music and raffle and a BBQ. Flyers and letters have been sent to every household, including raffle tickets to raise funds to host the events.

all ireland quarter final - As Kilkenny gear up for their quarter-final fixture against Limerick this weekend in Thurles they are beset by injury concerns. Among those with worries are our own Colin Fennelly, Henry Shefflin and Michael Fennelly. Hopefully they will all be fully fit for Sunday and ready to take their places on the team or panel along with TJ Reid and the rest of the Kilkenny panel.

Birthdays - Happy Birthday to Chiara Raglia (Knocktopher) who turned ‘sweet sixteen’ recently! Other recent Birthdays include Adam Brenner (Ballyhale) and Alan Knox (Australia via Knockwilliam). Happy Birthday to all those who celebrated birthdays recently.
