TIDY TOWNS COMPETITION 2012-Thanks to all whom are litter picking, displaying flowers, strimmng approach roads and doing painting works to help make the town clean and presentable for the Tidy Towns competition. The CES team are tending to grass maintenance and certain spraying works around the town. Well done to the team also in ensuring that St. Finnan’s Cemetery was neat and tidy for the annual mass recently. The tidy town clean up continues in July starting from the Square every Wednesday at 8pm. Your support is much appreciated – every little helps.
CHARITY TRACTOR CLASSIC RUN 2012-Since 2006 the CTCR Classic Tractor Charity Run has been a familiar sight across the North Kilkenny terrain and the neighbouring counties of Carlow, Laois and Offaly. This year the well oiled convoy sets off from Ballyragget on Friday July 20th at 10a.m. The destination is Tullamore and the route takes in Carlow, Stradbally and Portlaoise. The organisers wish to convey their sincere gratitude to all who continue to support what is a real community event. To date a sum of €186,464 has been collected and every penny raised has gone directly to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin. The army of local volunteers pride themselves in ensuring there are no expenses involved what a wonderful gesture by all concerned. The group arrive back in Ballyragget on Saturday July 21st at 5 p.m. and the evening is rounded off with a Cabaret and Auction in Fitzpatrick’s Bar. Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin treat 40,000 children annually and it’s a wonderful testament to the charity of the people of the area to see the event being supported so well every year,
PLAYGROUP-As there are now no vacancies left for our morning Playgroup, names are being taken for the Afternoon session which operates from 12.30 to 3.30 p.m. Monday to Friday. This is open to preschool and pre-preschool children aged from 2years 6 months to 5 years. We deliver the same high standard Playgroup and Montessori programme as
the morning session. Free places available under the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme and part subsidised places available under the Community Childhood Subvention Scheme. GREEN WASTE-Dunmore Recycling Centre is now accepting green waste at €2 a bag or €70 per tonne. You can dispose of grass cuttings, hedge clippings etc. at the centre. Please avail of this facility and help keep our environment clean.

TEAM NEWS-History was made in the club this week as Kevin Kelly captained Kilkenny to victory over Laois in the Leinster Under 21 Final at O’Moore Park Portlaoise, it was a great day for the county and a great day for the club. The huge Ballyragget crowd in attendance was testament as to what this great honour meant to the parish, also in the black and amber from the club and featuring on the Under 21 panel were Geoff Brennan, James Gannon, Michael Brennan and Stephen Staunton. Well done to all concerned. St Patrick’s Ballyragget Intermediate team were in action on Sunday against St Lachtains Freshford in Lisdowney. The game was a tough fought battle and ended on a score line of Freshford 2-16 Ballyragget 2-12.
Oiche Na gClub 2012- this year’s club “day” will be a night once again, on Friday 27th of July the club will celebrate its annual club get together at the grounds in Oldtown. The festivities start at 6pm for the kids sports with a ball wall challenge and races planned. Food and refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
NAOMH BRID -Naomh Brid Camogie club-On Saturday July 7th the Under 10 team headed to Tullaroan for a three game blitz. A beautiful morning and a blue sky provided a welcome break from the bad weather of the previous days. The first game was against St. Martin’s and despite leading at half time; the girls were pipped in the second half. A tremendous performance against O Loughlin Gaels also ended in a narrow defeat, while our hosts, Tullaroan, were a little better in the third game . The players are improving all the time and the supporters present were delighted with their efforts. Thanks to the Tullaroan club for refreshments after the games. The Under 12 team travelled to Clough on Monday July 9th to play Cloneen in the League. Despite the heavy shower of rain en route, it stayed fine for the match. Playing with great determination from the start Naomh Brid led by 2-2 to no score after ten minutes. By half time, it was 3-3 to no score, with Katie Brennan scoring two goals and Mary Kate Brennan the third. The second half followed a similar pattern and goals by Katie Brennan, Zoe Gleeson (who was goalkeeper for the first half) and Mary Kate Brennan (2) ensured a comfortable win for Naomh Brid. This was an impressive team performance with all players making a contribution to victory. The supporters were thrilled with the performance and noted the ongoing improvement in the team. Cloneen battled all the way and were unlucky with some of their scoring efforts. The host club had everything in perfect order for the game, including a well marked pitch of the proper dimensions. Thanks to Cloneen for their warm welcome. BORD NA NOG-St Patrick’s GAA Bord Na Og/ Juvenile section are having a table quiz fundraiser on Friday the 27th of July at 9 pm. in the Hogan Stand. Quizmaster on the night will be Mr. Jack Dunphy. CHURCH GATE COLLECTION-Patrick’s GAA Bord Na Og/ Juvenile section will hold a church gate collection at Ballyragget and Ballyouskill on the 28th and 29th of July as part of their weekend fundraiser.
SCRAP SATURDAY-Are you “Summer” cleaning your home or farm? Do you want to get rid of your unwanted scrap metal, farm machinery, batteries and electrical goods for free and help St. Patricks GAA Club raise much needed funds for the club at the same time? St. Patrick’s Ballyragget GAA Club are organising a scrap metal collection. Some examples of items we are looking for include saucepans, steel kettles, toasters, golf irons, dishwashers, radiators, steel fireplaces, steel garden furniture, bicycles, steel window frames, steel oil tanks, washing machines, filing cabinets, coal buckets, cars, steel gutters, aerials, steel wheelbarrows, tyre rims (without the rubber), lawn mowers. Items we “CAN NOT” take include, TV’s, plastic, timber, fridges, gas cylinders. A collection service will be arranged on the day.
