Gowran: Back to local championship

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS SWING INTO GEAR - Following the climax of Kilkenny’s All-Ireland senior hurling final victory over Galway, attention switches to the club scene and the Hurling and Camogie Championships. The group stages of the St. Canices Credit Union Senior and the Michael Lyng Motors Intermediate Hurling League resume this weekend following an unexpected lengthy break, and Young Irelands of Gowran play the All-Ireland Junior Club champions St. Patricks of Ballyragget in the final round of group games in the Intermediate league. Victory for the Young Irelanders will set up a league final clash with neighbours Clara. Meanwhile, the Camogie girls will be attempting to secure a third consecutive Junior championship final as they play league champions James Stephens in the semi-final this weekend. It’s the second consecutive weekend that they will be hoping to record victory over the village ladies, as last weekend they recorded an emphatic victory in the All-County junior league final last weekend in Clara winning 1-17 to 1-4.
