MEN OF THE MATCH - Paul Murphy and Richie Hogan turned in man of the match performances, last Sunday , when the helpedKilkenny to their record thirty fourth senior All Ireland victory. Paul did Trojan work throughout the whole game as right corner back, a position he can call his own for years to come. Paul, after only his second year in the senior level, according to the hurling pundits is now in the running for player of the year. Richie who scored three points and contributed to myriad of other scores, won his fifth All Ireland senior hurling medal on Sunday. Paddy Hogan is the other Danesfort clubman on the successful Kilkenny Panel. The parish is bubbling after the victory is is looking forward to the announcement of the hurling AllStars.
GAA - Danesfort take on Dunnamaggin in the last game in Group 1 of the St Canice’s senior hurling league in Hugginstown thisSaturday. This is a must win game for the locals having been beaten by the other four sides in the group. Presently Danesfort are propping up the table on zero points. Tullaroan and Dunnamaggin have two points each, Fenians and St. Martins have six points while Ballyhale Shamrocks top the group, having won all their games, on eight points. FUN RUN - The second Annual JJ Reddy Danesfort 10k Run - and 5k Fun Run are being held on Sunday October 7. The JJ Reddy Danesfort 10k Run leaves Danesfort GAA at 12.00 and travels through the lovely countryside around Danesfort and Burnchurch. The race is dedicated to the former treasurer and much missed member of the club JJ Reddy who passed away last year. Paul Murphy, Kilkenny Hurler and All Star, will be the Grand Marshal and official starter of the race. This years 10k race is a chipped race – which means that the athletes are given absolutely accurate times for their run. There are prizes for men and women in the 10k race – 1st €125.00, 2nd €75.00 and 3rd €50, and there are other prizes for the 5k fun run as well. Teas, coffees Refreshments will be served after the race and water etc. will be available along the route. It should be a great day out for athletes and fun walkers alike, so why not come along on the October 7 and join in!!You can enter on line now at www.runireland.ie for the 10k and 5k for individual entrants, €15 and €10 respectively. KARATE - Danesfort Karate Club meet in the Danesfort Community Centre every Tuesday from 4pm - 5pm. S.O.S. - S.O.S. is a Voluntary Organisation in Kilkenny for adults with a mild-moderate intellectual disability, providing day services, respite and residential care. They are looking for families or individuals (hosts) to provide short breaks (day/overnight/weekend) in their home for adults from our services. Each host is matched with one person from S.O.S. and an expense allowance is paid for each break provided. They are also looking for volunteers to support us in providing extra social and recreational activities for people attending S.O.S. in the evening time or weekends.
