25TH ANNIVERSARY - Some of the families and friends of the four young people who tragically lost their lives as their car plunged into the water opposite the boat slip in Inistioge 25 years ago gathered for a memorial service at the site of the memorial stone on Saturday last. Some 60 family members and friends travelled to Inistioge to remember and honour the four young people, namely, John Fidgeon, Derek Martin, Peter Mannion and Yvonne Skelly. They were joined by local people, some of whom were deeply involved with the search effort which was to follow after the tragedy unfolded. PJ Ó Carroll, Inistioge was asked to light a candle at the service in recognition of the work that he and his unit in the local Civil Defence put in during the eight weeks that were to follow the terrible events. Fr. Scriven led the ceremony and later prayed for them all at mass. The family members were very touched and helped by the support that they got from the local community all those years ago and they were very happy to finally get a chance to say thank you. May their four young souls Rest In Peace.
