Do your best to shop locally, it will make a difference and after all these are the people who give spot prizes and are very generous to all the clubs, groups when they are fundraising. Don’t forget the Goresbridge calendar for 2013 is in the shops also and it makes a great gift and costs €10.

CHRISTMAS TREE - Hopefully by the time you read this article there will be a large Christmas Tree erected in Goresbridge and hopefully it will brighten everyone’s spirits. Goresbridge Rural Development is responsible for organising it but those of you who do Split the Pot and have bought a calendar are the people that made it possible. Thanks to our Fás and Tus teams for getting the job done.

GORESBRIDGE CALENDAR - The Goresbridge calendar is selling very well, the committee of Goresbridge Rural Development would like to thank you for your support and a big thanks to the sponsors, Harding Fireplaces, J.J Maher, Tony Davitt, Brian Phelan, Jeutonic, Patroon Systems, A.D. Mouldings, Maher’s Pub, Donohoe Properties, John Kelly and Son Hardware, Gowran Park Racecourse, A-B Barrowmount Woodfuels and Goresbridge Credit Union. Thank you to all who submitted photographs. The calendar costs €10 and the funds raised go towards improvements in the village.

CAKE SALE - Paulstown Community Playground Committee will hold a cake sale in the Parish hall (beside the church) on Sunday the 16th December from 12.15pm. Your support will be greatly appreciated. Any volunteers and bakers welcome. Details from Rachel 087 9536547/Grainne 086 8242323.

HOLLY WREATHS - If you would like to order a holly wreath, door swag, table centre or over mantle decoration you can do so locally by contacting Matthew Murphy, Barrowmount Drive, 086 2503146. It is nice to able buy these locally and they look very good.

GAME ABONDONED - Bridge United u 14’s were leading 2-0 against Freebooters when the game was abandoned. The under 12’s drew 3-3 with Freebooters B in Goresbridge. The under 10’s drew 2-2 with Evergreen United.

EIGHT WIN - Bridge United B team recorded their eight win of the season to maintain control of division 3 with a 3-2 win over Orchard Rovers. They remain unbeaten this season under the management of Keith Glynn and John ‘Pele’ Carroll and with four games left they look strong contenders to win the league

CAROL SERVICE - The Goresbridge Carol Service will take place during Mass on Saturday, December 15. There will be a collection in aid of Carlow/Kilkenny Homecare Team.

CABARET FOR ST.PATICK’S DAY PARADE - The Parade Committee will hold a cabaret on Friday December 21 in Blake’s Pub. Tickets available from committee members, they cost €3 or two for €5. There will be a door prize, a raffle and an auction, it promises to be a great night out.

BARROW RANGERS LOTTO PLUS EXTRA PRIZES - Wouldn’t you just love to get your hands on €5,000; well for €2 you have a chance. You just choose 4 numbers between 1-24 and you are in with a chance. The money raised goes towards running Barrow Rangers hurling club and when you see what work is done at underage level it is very well worth supporting. Tickets are available at Pat Nolan’s Shop, Maher’s Spar and from Peter Breen on this side of the parish. For the next three weeks instead of the usual chance of winning €25 you have a chance of winning €100, there will be 5 prizes of €100 each week for the next 3 weeks and you know the saying, if you are not in you can’t win.

LOTTO WORTH €6,325 - Bridge United‘s lotto is worth €6,325 and the reserve jackpot is €2,350. It costs just €2 to play and tickets can be purchased in Nolan’s, Maher’s Pub, Maher’s Spar, the Coffee Dock, the Barrow Breeze, Bridge Diner, Blake’s or any committee member. If you are not in, you can’t win.

FIELD DAY - Recently there was a meeting held to finalise accounts regarding the Field Day. It was a huge success with each group, Bridge United, Cois Bearbha and GRD receiving €3,000, most of this was distributed months ago and is probably spent at this stage but a big thanks to all the businesses who gave sponsorship, to the fantastic volunteers who gave up their time to help on the day and to the public for supporting the event.

DATES FOR 2013 - Next year Confirmation will be held on Saturday April 27 in the Parish. The First Communion will be held in Goresbridge on Saturday May 11 and in Paulstown on Saturday May 25.
