DISABLED DRIVERS ASSOCIATION - On behalf of the Disabled Drivers Association Maura and Declan Delaney would like to thank all who so generously contributed to the recent Church Gate collection. A sum of €576 was collected – many thanks.

FREE TASTER WORKSHOPS - Free taster workshops – skills for employment and or further education. Co. Kilkenny VEC are hosting a series of FREE half-day workshops on Tuesday’s (9.30am – 1.30pm)over a six week period in May and June 2013. Venues will include Callan, Urlingford and Kilkenny City. These workshops are aimed in the first instance at young adults in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance/Benefits and or those who finished their education before completing the Leaving and or Junior Certificate or equivalent. The workshops are designed to provide an opportunity to refresh existing skills and or to gain new skills and subject knowledge. TIDY TOWNS COMPETITION 2013 - Preparations have begun for this year’s Tidy Town’s and it is hoped that everyone will enter into the spirit of the competition in helping to keep our streets, estates and roads litter free and planting flowers to enhance the presentation of our area. The Scout Group has already commenced litter picking duties and they will take responsibility for the flower beds in Chapel Avenue, the Glenvale flower beds at the shop fronts and the flower boxes outside the CYMS Hall. The CES team are doing great work in preparing flower boxes and flower planting is ready to commence in the town. If you would be will to maintain a flower bed in the town please talk to one of the Tidy Towns committee – any support would be very much appreciated. Litter picking sessions will commence on Wednesday 8th May from the Square and all are welcome – do help out and lend a hand, everybody’s help will make a difference – get involved and see the difference it can make.

WATER UPGRADE WORKS - Under the Small Schemes Allocations from Kilkenny County Council  Ballyragget water supply has received €30,000. Cllr. Maurice Shortall says the funds will be used towards Ultra Violet Disinfection.

THANK YOU NDA - Many thanks to Enda Behan of Mega Value, Glenvale who organised a raffle in aid of the Day Centre Christmas Party Fund over Easter.  Enda very kindly sponsored the prize and sold tickets in his shop. Thanks also to Breda Delaney, Finnan, in this regard.

HOGAN STAND BOOK CLUB - The book for next month’s is The Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden. The Hogan Stand Book Club will meet on Tuesday 7th May in the Hogan Stand and new members are always welcome.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS - Thanks to all who contributed to the recent Church Gate Collection in aid of Special Olympics. The amount collected was €532.83. A special word of thanks to the members of St. Patrick’s G.A.A. Club who did the collection.

BALLYRAGGET ICA - The ICA would like to most sincerely thank all those who helped to make their recent coffee morning in aid of the Kilkenny Home Care Team such a success. They would like to give special thanks to the Ballyragget Scouts for their generosity – the amount raised was €508 – thanks to all concerned.

TEAM NEWS - St. Patricks Intermediate team were in action against Dunnamaggin on Saturday evening in Kilmanagh. The team played well and at half time they were level. In the second half the Ballyragget men did well and won by 2 points. The club is in action this bank holiday weekend with the Junior B team playing Galmoy on Monday in Ballyragget at 3pm.

 NAOMH BRID CAMOGIE CLUB - Training took place in beautiful sunshine on Tuesday, April 23rd, with forty eight enthusiastic participants. There were eight coaches on duty to organise and supervise the players.

Sessions continue every Tuesday from 6.15 pm to 7.15 pm and new players are always welcome. Naomh Brid hosted an Under 12 blitz on Saturday, April 27th with Emeralds, Cloneen and St. Brigids also participating. A most enjoyable day’s play saw our girls performing very well in their three games. The home squad was Thanh Phelan, Lauren Phelan, Sinead Walshe, Mary-Kate Brennan, Chieuh Phelan, Sheila Brophy, Zoe Gleeson, Ciara Brennan, Lara Dowling, Mollie Southgate, Clodagh O’ Doherty, Michaela Ryan, Ellie Smith, Nessa Morrissey, Katelyn Cummins, Sinead Morrissey, Kiara Walshe.  We will be welcoming Conahy Shamrocks, Clara and Emeralds on Saturday, May 4th for an Under 10 blitz. Thanks to our catering personnel, who provide the refreshments for players and mentors.  The Under 14 team will begin their League campaign on Wednesday May 8th with a home game against Tullogher @ 7pm.They had a useful practice game against Freshford, on Friday night, in Ballyragget. We extend our thanks and appreciation to Caroline Phelan, John Ronan and another benefactor, who wishes to remain anonymous. BORD NA NOG - The hurling and Gaelic football season is well and truly in full swing. With over 130 St. Patrick’s underage players now registered, it is wonderful to see the GAA Park thronged with so many aspiring young players on these long evenings. The under 14 hurlers opened their league campaign with a solid victory over Dicksboro with a score of 3-8 to 1-0. They play St. Fiacres in the opening round of the Football championship in Tom Walsh park next Monday night at 7pm .Our minor hurlers bounced back in style from their narrow defeat to Slieverue with comprehensive wins over Carrickshock and Cloneen respectively, they now lie second in the league table with their next match against Dicksboro in Palmerstown next Tuesday at 7pm. The under
16 team play Young Irelands in Gowran on Friday 10th may. The under 10’s played their first ‘Go Games’ series of matches versus a strong Dicksboro A team in St. Johns Park last Saturday and earned a well deserved draw in the process. They now play Danesfort at home next Saturday morning at 10am in the ‘park’. Our under 6’s and 8’s continue their Gaelic football training next Sunday morning 11-12 noon with our new football coach Brian Kelly.

KEVIN KELLY - Kevin Kelly is currently coaching hurling with the Boys of St. Chiaráin N.S. every Friday. Kevin is a first year degree student in GAA coaching at I.T. Carlow and is proving to be a valuable addition to the Boys School coaching needs. Kevin is one of the most successful underage hurlers in St. Patricks where he captained the Kilkenny under 21 hurling team in 2012 and received the E.S.B. Man of the Match award for what was a memorable and outstanding performance in the 2010 All Ireland minor hurling final. He currently trains with the Kilkenny senior hurling panel. New members can still join St. Patrick GAA club and training takes place on Wednesday nights between 6-7pm. You can contact any mentor on the night for more details.

CARD NIGHT - The St. Patricks Bord na nOg Progressive Card night fundraiser last night proved again to be a huge success. Many thanks must go to all the GAA parents who volunteered to organise this event including all the generous sponsors from the local business community who sponsored such wonderful spot prizes. A very special word of thanks goes to Noreen Ryan, Castlemarket who year on year provides invaluable guidance and organisational assistance which makes this fundraiser such a success.
