Lotto - The parish lotto with a jackpot and of €7,100 was not won, small winners were €30 Bernie White, €25 John Dunphy, Oldtown, €20 Catherina Henderson. The lotto will be in Peadar’s Bar, on May 7 with a possible jackpot of €7,400 on offer. Tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.

Age Friendly - Kilkenny Age Friendly County programme is available to provide ‘Aging with Confidence’ in your area. The eight weeks workshop is a personal development programme designed to help people over 55 explore their aging process. The programme is run by two trained facilitators and looks at all aspects of aging including physical, emotional and intellectual. The workshop is free of charge and is usually run at local community/parish centers. Enquiries welcome from community centers/individuals and groups. Blood Donor Clinic - The Irish Blood Transfusion Service mobile unit will visit Durrow on Thursday, May 9 from 4.30 to 8pm in the Castle Arms Hotel. With such great demands for blood please donate when the unit is in Durrow. There are over 3,000 donations of blood needed each week in Ireland to meet the demand and your donation can and will play a vital part in someone recovery after an operation or in an accident.
Dunmore Community Alert Scheme - The response to the initial stages of the setting up of the Dunmore Community Alert Scheme has been extremely positive. The committee would like to thank everyone involved for their support to date. An official launch of the scheme will take place on Thursday, May 2 at the Castle Arms Hotel in Durrow starting at 8pm. All residents in the catchments area are encouraged to attend this event. Road signs for the scheme will be erected in the near future. A Garda liaison Officer has been appointed and details of the ‘Text Alert’ system will be finalised shortly.
Litter Blitz - A big thank you to all the residents who came out on Saturday, April 20 to help in the litter blitz as part of ‘Clean Up Laois Week’. A small number of busier roads in the area have yet to be cleaned and it is hoped to tackle these in the coming weeks.
Laois Kayak and Canoe - Congratulations to Laois Kayak and Canoe Club members who took part in the Nore Marathon race from Bennettsbridge to Thomastown recently, club members, Paul Byrne, Debbie Whelan, Conal Whelan and Eoghan Whelan took home four medals, 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal. Trout - Durrow /Cullohill Parish Anglers held a trout fishing competition for the Mick O’Rourke Memorial Cup on Sunday and the first winner of this trophy is Declan McDonald, second was Tommy Coffey and third was Seanie Delehunty. Juvenile winner was Daniel Brophy with Odhran Delehunty as runner –up. The next competition will be a pike fishing competition and it will be held in Granstown Lake. This will be the first competition that the club will host on this lake since it has taken over the fishing rights.
