TOTS TO TEENS - Tots to teens is back again this year. Registration took place in the Community Hall on Friday last for thisyear’s production of The Lion King featuring Madagascar. All 6 -16 year olds are invited to join . The Group hold their AGM in the Community Hall on this Wednesday the 12th September at 8pm. All parents are asked to attend the AGM. Rehearsals will resume on Monday next 17th September . FRESHFORD COMMUNITY MARKET - Freshford Community Market is held each Saturday from 11 – 12.30pm with a number of stalls and a good variation of goods on offer also This is a community initiative so go along and support your local Community and have a tea or coffee and some homemade scones or cakes all locally produced. GAA - St. Lachtains Minor Hurlers play Erins Own of Castlecomer in Ballyragget on Sunday next in the quarter final of the Championship at 2pm. and your support would be greatly appreciated. The U16 hurlers bowed out of the championship on Saturday afternoon last when they were defeated by Tullaroan in the semi final played at Kilmanagh. Training continues for the Intermediate panel as arranged. They played James Stephens in Pairc Lachtain on Friday evening last in a challenge. Due to the drawn All Ireland final, the Intermediate and Senior championship will not resume until mid October.

Best of luck to local lad Brian Kennedy. Brian is a member of Kilkenny U21 Hurling team who take on Clare in the All Ireland final on Saturday next at Thurles.

Brian was a member of the Kilkenny Intermediate team beaten by Tipperary in the All Ireland final recently. Also playing at centre back on that team was Bill Beckett while James Meagher was sub goalie for the team. SOCCER - The schoolboys soccer league kicks off next weekend with the U12 boys at home to Thomastown with a 2.15pm kickoff. The U14 boys are away to Paulstown at 11.30am while the U16 game has been cancelled. The coaching session for U5 -9 year old will recommence on Saturday next after the Summer break at the local Sportsfield at Woodview and will continue each Saturday from 12 noon to 1pm. Congrats to three local boys who chosen for the Development Squad recently, they are Cathal O’Leary. Elijah Garrett and Josh McCarthy. Meanwhile the Junior side have training each Wednesday and same has been going well so far. They take on Fort Rangers at Danesfort on Sunday next at 11am in the Maher Shield Competition. UPPERCOURT RESTAURANT - The newly refurbished luxurious Loop Restaurant at Uppercourt Manor, Freshford which opened recently to the public is open each Sunday for meals from 12.30 to 5pm. with great quality food and value. OASIS CHILDCARE CENTRE - All Schemes have started again at Oasis Centre. If there is any parents who have not yet enrolled in the ECCE, CCS or CETS schemes they should do so now. Marathon –-Anyone interested in participating in the Dublin City Marathon you are asked to please contact Paul Dowling on 087 6657366 for details. The group meet twice weekly in preparation for the occasion. There are four local lads taking part at the moment – Andrew Martin, Paul Phelan, Noel Maher and Paul Dowling. . All proceeds will be in aid of Prague House

Golf - Freshford Gold Society had their Outing to Rathdowney recently with big turn out on the day . Winners were – Jonathan Doheny – 40pts (22) Shane McGree -39pts (13) J.J.Tobin – 39 pts (17) and Alan Rafter – 38pts (17); Front nine – G.Hughes, Back Nine – N.Crosby, Nearest to Pin – Joe Crosby.The next outing is on the 15th September in Faithlegg ( Captains Day). Freshford Golf Society took on Kilmanagh Golf Society recently in a Challenge in Gowran . It ended in a draw 3-3 – Replay date to be confirmed.

 ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP - Freshford Active Retirement Group meet in the local Community Hall each Tuesday at 3pm. New members are always most welcome. CAMOGIE NEWS - The Senior girls lost out to Thomastown in the All County League semi final on Monday last. The local girls travelled to Thomastown and it was the home side who got off to a blistering start with points from placed balls and from play. The local girls responding with just 2 points in the first half from Sinead Connery and Lydia Fitzpatrick. Thomastown went in leading at the break by 0 - 12 to 0- 2. The second half was a much closer game with scores from both sides, the Freshford girls responded with goals from Sarah Lanigan and Imelda Kennedy. Some fine saves by goalie Carol Kavanagh kept Freshford within reach of Thomastown. But in the end it was Thomastown who held out to win on a scoreline of 1-16 to 2-09. Team; C. Kavanagh, D. Daly, F. SPIN the wheel - There was no Spin the Wheel in Kavanaghs on Saturday night last The winner the previous week was Paul White, Inch who won himself €50. Second prize went to Billy King, Bohercrussia Street.. The draw will resume next weekend when the Jackpot will be €750. The draw is run each Saturday night in Kavanaghs as a fund raising for the local GAA Club. The lucky winner of the draw for All Ireland tickets and overnight stay in hotel recently was Thomas Brennan, Sart, Freshford while the lucky winner of the signed Kilkenny Jersey was Billy Walsh, Kilrush.

school - St. Lachtains National school reopened recently after the Summer holidays with many new children starting school for the first time. There is a Special School Year Mass in Freshford Church on this Wednesday morning at 9.30a and parents are invited to attend also.
