GAA - The club has had busy few weeks, on Saturday last the 1st of September Kilkenny met Tipperary in the Intermediate All Ireland Hurling Final at Semple Stadium, there were four members of the club on the panel Kevin Kelly, Joe Brennan, Bill Staunton and Geoff Brennan. Both Kevin Kelly and Geoff Brennan were on the field of play and were two important players for the Kilkenny team as they fought hard in the second half of the game to catch Tipperary. Unfortunately Kilkenny were defeated. On Sunday last the 9th of September Joe Brennan lined out as number 26 for the Kilkenny Seniors in the All Ireland final against Galway, a game that ended on a draw for the first time since 1959. We wish Joe and all the Kilkenny seniors the best of luck in the replay of the game on the 30th of September next when hopefully Liam will get back home to his rightful throne. This Saturday evening the 15th of September. The Under 21 All Ireland Final will take place in Semple Stadium Thurles. Best wishes are extended to the five St. Patrick’s players who are involved with the Kilkenny team, in the Bord Gais Energy, All Ireland Under 21 Hurling final, on Saturday next , at 7pm, in Semple Stadium. Kilkenny will play the Munster champions Clare for only the second time in an under 21 decider. The Banner County had one point to spare in the 2009 final, at Croke Park. En route to the final, Kilkenny have beaten Wexford, Laois and Galway, while Clare has overcome Waterford, Tipperary and Antrim. The club is represented by Kevin Kelly (Captain), Geoff Brennan, Michael Brennan, James Gannon and Steve Staunton .Recent training sessions have been held under lights on our pitch and the team has prepared well under the guidance of Richie Mulroney (Bainisteoir) Adrian Finan and Brian Ryan. Victory will send Kilkenny to the top of the roll of honour, which they currently share with Cork, on eleven titles each. Kilkenny’s first title was won in 1974 and their most recent in 2008. Overall the black & amber has played in twenty one All Ireland Finals at this grade, winning eleven and losing ten. The prize for the winners is the Cashel Cross Trophy, which was presented to the GAA for this competition by the Archbishop of Cashel and Emily Dr. Tom Morris, in 1967. Let’s hope that Kevin will be the man receiving it from the GAA President, Mr. Liam O’ Neill on Saturday night.

NAOMH BRID CAMOGIE CLUB- The under 10 team had an enjoyable day at the Lisdowney hosted blitz, on Saturday August 18th. We played three games, which were against Gowran, Lisdowney and Freshford. The team played well in all of the matches and gave a splendid account of themselves. Despite scoring in each game, a victory eluded us, but the ongoing improvement in the team was great to see. These under 10 players are very committed to training and have represented the club with great enthusiasm all year. The squad was – Mary Kate Brennan, Ciara Mc Donald, Nessa Morrissey, Michaela Ryan, Emma Glennon, Catherine Purcell, Miriam Phelan, Kiera Walshe, Ellie Smith, Eimear Kavanagh, Sinead Morrissey, Leanne Ryan, Hannah Coyle- Twomey, Sienna Gunner and Katelyn Cummins.

AXIS 3 RDP 2007-2013 PROJECTS - Following a recent decision Kilkenny County Council now have the possibility of becoming beneficiaries (promoters) under two measures of the Rural Development Programme (RDP). Kilkenny County Council has prioritised a number of potential projects and the good news is that Kilkenny Leader Partnership has indicated that they meet the funding criteria. The ambitious project spearheaded by Ballyragget Development Association where all of the overhead power lines and services on the Square would be ducted underground is included in the proposals. Under Measure 322 of the Village Renewal and Development the funding is allocated from 3 sources Kilkenny Leader Partnership 75%; Kilkenny County Council 20%; and a Local Contribution from a Community Group of 5%. Cllr. Maurice Shortall says Kilkenny County Council are now working up the details and potential own funds available to advance applications to Kilkenny Leader Partnership. “We will need to get communities on board in all of the selected areas to have valid projects.”said Cllr. Shortall.
