Danesfort Three Must Do It Again - The three Danesfort clubmen on the Kilkenny senior hurling panel will have to peak again on September 30 when they take on Galway in the replay of the All-Ireland senior hurling championship. Paul Murphy, Richie and Paddy Hogan will be hoping that Kilkenny can improve on last Sunday’s performance and bring McCarthy back to the Noreside. Paul put in an excellent performance and Richie did well even though out of his usual position, in midfield. The whole parish are behind you boys.

GAA - Danesfort Hurling Club have a number of players on this years Kilkenny Under-14 , Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Hurling teams. Tom Whitty and James Mullally are on the Under-14 panel which won the Tony Forrestal Tournament. Conor O’Neill is on the Under-15 Kilkenny South team who played in the Michael Foley Tournament. James Tynan is on the Under-16 B Kilkenny team that played in the Nenagh Tournament. and Michael O’Neill is on the Under-17 Kilkenny team that played in the Eugene Carey Memorial Tournament. Congratulations and well done lads.

FIELD DAY - A great crowd turned out to enjoy the annual field day at the Seven Houses coursing grounds on Sunday September 2 2012. The organising committee would like to thank people for turning out in such numbers for what is a great parish reunion. They would also like to thank all those who volunteered in organising the day and for operating the many stalls and attractions.A special thanks to those who sponsored prizes for the monster raffle and to those who donated items for the auction. SOCCER - Fort Rangers schoolboys are all set to commence training for the new season.. Under-11, Under-13 and Under 14’s are in Scanlon park this Thursday night (13th) from 7-8pm with the Under-8, Under-9 and Under-10’s back in the Wallslough arena next Monday night (17th) from 6.30-7.30 pm.. New players welcome. Registration will take place on the night. Each player to bring €3 per night to training. Registration for the year is €30(€50 for 2 members of same family). FUN RUN - The Annual 10k & 5k Fun Run in the Countryside” for everyone from serious athletes through to the rest of us, on the 7th of October starting at 12.00 from the GAA club. TABLE QUIZ - A monster Table Quiz will be held in the Springhill Court Hotel on Wednesday September 19 at 8.00pm in aid of the Niall Mellon Township Trust. A table of Four costs €20 and there will be plenty of great spot prizes to be won on the night. Special guest on the night will be the 2011 “Hurler of the Year” Michael Fennelly and hopefully he will be accompanied by the one and only “Liam McCarthy”. The organisers want to wish Michael and all the team the very best of luck next Sunday in the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final against Galway. ALZHEIMERS - The Alzheimer Society of Ireland in Kilkenny will hold an Alzheimer Information Evening in The Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny on Tuesday 18th September at 8pm to mark World Alzheimer Week. This event is free and open to all. Consultant in Psychiatry of Old Age, Dr. Mia McLoughlin and Community Psychiatric Nurse, Caroline Clifford will be speaking on the night as well as a family carer who will talk about their experience of caring for a loved one with dementia.

FOROIGE - Cuffesgrange Foroige resume their meetings on Thursday September 20 in Danesfort Community Centre from 8pm to 9pm. New members are welcome between age 12-18 years.

MOTHER AND TODDLER - Danesfort Mother and Toddler group meet every Monday in Danesfort Community Centre at 10.30am. All mothers, fathers, carers with their little toddlers are welcome to join us any Monday morning at the centre. Danesfort Karate Club - Classes in Karate for Kids will resume in Danesfort Community Centre on Tuesday 4th September 2012 and will run on an on-going basis every Tuesday from 4pm - 5pm. The ‘After-School’ Kids Only Karate Class is for boys and girls aged between 4 years and 12 years old. Members of the club will be taught karate techniques and self-defence drills. There will also be a strong focus on physical fitness. Plenty of fun and games will also be incorporated in to the classes.
 Karate has many proven benefits for kids both physical and mentally. Bridge Classes - Danesfort Community Centre starting on Thursday 4th October from 11.00am to 1.00pm, for 11 weeks withAnnette Kennedy. You do not need to be a card player to learn Bridge. Playing regularly stimulates your brain and helps keep your memory active and brain alert. There is an old saying “use it or lose it” - playing bridge helps you to “use it”. While you are playing a game of bridge you brain is kept fully active. As well as the intellectual and competitive elements, the social side of bridge cannot be underestimated.  Many lifelong friendships are formed at the bridge table. Yoga - Danesfort Community Centre every Tuesday at 10am. The regular Yoga increases your overall flexibility. It improves muscle tone, breathing and body posture awareness. One of the great things about Yoga is that it can be taken up at any time by anyone. So if you are one of those people, curious about Yoga, but know little about it, and would like to try it, just drop in to our classes.
