Thank You- On behalf of my sister Marie Conroy her son Martin and his friends Ciaran Coughlan and Cahir Healy and myself Noeleen Dunphy we wish to thank most sincerely all who helped raise money for the Cuisle Centre and the Specialist Palliative Care Team through our sponsored shave or dye event. A total of 18000 euro was raised. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all who donated in the Durrow and Portlaoise areas. We were overcome by your very generous offerings which will help the Cuisle Centre and the Specialist Palliative Care Team to continue to be a vital support system to cancer care in Laois.
Durrow Tidy Towns - the committee have won 500 daffodil bulbs to enhance the approach roads to Durrow and with Durrow Development Forum we are planning to commence planting during the months of October-November. If you would like to join us on the new project this year please - let us know –if you can come out for a day part of a day or even an hour. There is great camaraderie doing these little jobs and great reward in spring when you see the flowers in Bloom. More daffodils will be needed so if you would like to sponsor a bag of daffodils for 25 euro or even donate towards a bag please contact Noeleen on 0879636460 or Mary 086 3055157.
Stars in your Eyes - The fantastic local show featuring local stars will take place in The Castle Arms Hotel on Saturday November 3. The line up is being kept very secret and all artists will start rehearsing very soon. Development Forum - The DDF are holding their Annual General meeting on Thursday September 27 at 8.30 in the Library. During the meeting The scarecrow festival The All-Ireland Pride of Place and the projects such as the plan of the Square will be discussed. If you are interested in any of these please drop in and see what we can do and how you can also help. This year has been a very busy one for the Forum but after a very successful Scarecrow Festival we are ready to build on it and have an even greater one in 2013. Smaller projects such as Daffodil Planting Stars in Your Eyes Strictly come dancing and St. Patrick’s Day Festival will also be on the Agenda.
Harps - Best wishes to the Senior Hurlers who play Rathdowney/Errill in the Semi-Final of the Senior Championship next Sunday in O’Moore Park. The Harps overcame a very poor Camross side to reach the Semi-final and will want to up their game if they are to reach the final. Your support next Sunday would be very much appreciated so come out and support your local team.
Lotto - there was no Jackpot winner. Winners on the night were 30 euro Trish c/o Simon Dwyer 25 euro Lar Dunphy 20 euro Terence Jacob. Next draw for a possible 2,800 will be held in Bob’s Bar. Tickets must be handed in by 9.30 on night of draw.
Fitness for Fun Pilates - A new session of Pilates commences on Tuesday September 18 of September from 8.30 – 9.30 pm in the Castle Arms Hotel Durrow. The cost is 50 Euro. Places are limited so booking is essential. Contact Margaret on 0868547710
St Tighearnachs Church Pastoral Council - Cullohill church Fete will take place on Saturday September 22 following 5 pm Mass in the Church grounds. Come along and enjoy fun for all the family. Attractions include Sliotar Strike Penalty Shoot out Dart throwing Book Stall Cake Stall Skittles Pony Rides Hot Food and much more. Later on come and enjoy the Garden Fete Cabaret from 9.30 in O’Connell’s Pub. Tickets 5 Euro at the door or from committee members. Raffle on the night. All money raised will be used to fund painting exterior walls of St. Tighearnach’s Church.
AnglinG - Durrow/Cullohill Anglers are holding a Trout fishing competition on Sunday September 16. Fishing commences at 10 am weigh in at 6 pm in Durrow Inn. Entries taken at Lawlor’s Florists from 9.30 am. Usual rules apply.
WALK - As part of the Laois Connect week there will be a 5km walk in Dunmore Woods, Durrow on Sunday September 16 at 2 pm. Meeting point is the Car Park in Dunmore Wood.
