Mayor of Kilkenny Seán Ó hArgáin spent time with local secondary school students this week, discussing future options for this year’s school leavers.

Perusing the 2013 edition of the Definitive Guide to Going to College the Mayor, accompanied by students from Kilkenny College and the Presentation Secondary School, explored the various routes to further education that are now available.

“The options available to school leavers these days are more and more diverse, as are the routes to further education. CAO, Careers, Universities, Colleges and Institutes,” said the mayor.

“They are all covered in this great guide.”

The Guide to Going to College 2013 is the leading publication for school leavers and their parents. It is now in its sixth year and is produced by Waterford SME, Icebreak.

“This year’s school leaver faces many obstacles, from charting their future path, to dealing with the recent grant situation,” said Lia Brennan, director of Icebreak.

“ We are delighted to have the Mayor of Kilkenny endorse the ‘Guide to Going to College’ and are confident that the guide will prove to be an invaluable resource to school leavers and their families.”

The Definitive Guide to Going to College is available now, ahead of the CAO deadline, in newsagents and branches of Dunnes Stores nationwide. It contains full CAO listings, the Leaving Certificate timetable for 2013 and details on grants and funding.

The guide also offers advice on practical issues such as searching for accommodation and living away from home. A campus cost comparison presents details of prices on everyday items in various colleges nationwide.
