JOHN MURRAY WALK - The RTE John Murray Walking Club will hold their walk next Sunday 14th April 2013 in Cullahill. The events of the day get underway at 11 am with the launch of the South Laois Tourism Trails Brochure and Tourist/Heritage Brochure. The official walk starts at 12 noon from Cullahill Community Centre.

A host of entertainers will be along to entertain the crowd before the walk, at the halfway point and after the walk, while refreshments will be served to all. The John Murray walks have attracted upwards of 1,200 walkers so it is important to come early.

LISDOWNEY CAMOGIE - Lisdowney Camogie Club has elected new club officials for 2013: Aisling Tallis, Chairperson, Louise Hogan and Claire Dunne, Secretary, and Janette Boran, Treasurer. Membership for the Camogie Club for 2013 is now due - adults €40, college students €30, under 18/16 €20, under 14 €10, and non-players €20. Membership will be collected prior to training and matches over the next two weeks by a club official. Also, the Camogie Club will be holding a Clothes Drive in the next few weeks (date to be confirmed), so don’t throw anything out when doing your spring cleaning!

JUNIOR HURLING - Well done to the Lisdowney Junior Team who had a good win over Graiguenamanagh in the All County Hurling League on Sunday afternoon in Graiguenamanagh.

UNDER 16: The Lisdowney Under 16 team was defeated by St Martin’s in the Duggan Steel Under 16 Hurling League last Friday night in Lisdowney.

SCHOOLS HURLING - The schools hurling season is well underway and the Lisdowney team will play Freshford this afternoon (Wednesday, 10th April 2013) in Freshford.

UNDERAGE HURLING - Hurling has resumed for boys and girls from Under 6 up to Under 12 in Lisdowney GAA Club and will continue every Saturday morning from 10 am to 11 am. All are welcome. Children must wear helmets and shin guards.

LISDOWNEY GAA & CAMOGIE CLUB LOTTO - The numbers drawn in the Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto on Tuesday, 2nd April 2013, were 3, 7, 20 and 22. There was no winner. Match three winners were Paddy Sweeney, Paddy Thornton and Mary Bowden (x2).

TEENAGE CORE TRAINING - Teenage Core Training courses begin this week and next week. This course is suitable for 10 year olds to 18 year olds, male and female, and is excellent for injury prevention, good posture and improving your sport. Many children currently do ‘Core Exercises’, However, it is essential that they are taught how to do them correctly so that they will not harm themselves and will benefit more from exercises that they do in clubs and schools. COMMUNITY GAMES HANDWRITING COMPETITION - Congratulations to Anna Scott from Scoil Naomh Fiachra Clontubrid who won a silver medal in the Count Kilkenny Community Games Handwriting Competition.

COMMUNITY GAMES ART - Congratulations to Conor O’Gorman and Laura O’Gorman from Scoil Naomh Fiachra Clontubrid, both of whom won bronze medals in the County Kilkenny Community Games Art Competition.

BAPTISMS - Congrats to the families of Milly Emma Purcell, Foyle South, and Lilia-Jane Herlihy, Kilrush, who were baptised recently.

MONTH’S MIND MASS - A Month’s Mind Mass for Sinead Woodward, Coolcashin, will be held in Gathabawn Church this Sunday, 14th April 2013, at 11 am.

RAFFLE RESULTS - The winners of the Lisdowney Resource Centre/Lisdowney Afternoon Club Easter Raffle were Jim Delaney, Ballyphilip, Gerry Henderson, Gathabawn, Johnny Holland, Gathabawn and Sheila O’Sullivan, Gathabawn. Support for the raffle was greatly appreciated.

AFTERNOON CLUB - The Afternoon Club will meet tomorrow (Thursday, 11th April 2013) at 2.30 pm in Lisdowney Resource Centre.

WEEE COLLECTION - A WEEE collection will take place next Tuesday (16th April 2013) at Costcutter’s Car Park, Ballyragget, from 9 am to 12 noon. Any household item with a plug or battery will be accepted. People are asked not to leave items for collection outside of the designated times as this will be deemed to be illegal dumping.

OCCUPATIONAL FIRST AID COURSE - A FETAC three-day Occupational First Aid Course will be held in Clontubrid in May. It includes CPR and all aspects of First Aid including emergency treatments for burns, epilepsy, wounds, fractures and choking. Spaces are very limited. The cost of the entire course €190. ADULT BADMINTON - Monday night badminton continues in Lisdowney hall at 8pm.

ARC WELDING- A night course in Arc Welding starts in Colaiste Mhuire Johnstown this week and will run for nine weeks. Please contact 087-9057118 to enrol.

OSSORY AGRICULTURAL SHOW - At the recent Ossory Agricultural Show meeting, the Chairman Peter Ging welcomed and thanked everyone for the great work they put into last year’s show and all sponsors for their continued support during this difficult time financially, and the media and press for their constant coverage. Minutes were read and signed. Votes of sympathy were expressed to all the families who suffered recent loss, including treasurer Irene Newman on the death of her uncle William Young and also the family of Lily Nolan (Teagasc).
