Social - A social evening of dancing will take place in St Kierans Community Hall on next Friday Night August 3rd. Music by Brendan Lee and Obsession. Dancing from 9.30 to 12.30.
Annual Collection - St Anne’s School Roscrea extends sincere thanks to all who contributed to their Church Gate collection. The amount raised was €1,045. St Anne’s caters for students with particular learning difficulties. Many thanks also to all the collectors.
500 Club Draw - The Annual monthly draw from now until Christmas in aid of the upkeep and refurbishment of St Kieran’s Community Hall is now in progress. Draw for the months of July and August will be held at the social evening in the hall on Friday next. Prizes are 1st €600, 2nd €250, 3rd to 5th €100, 6th €75. A special draw for paid up members will also be held. Prize €120. Tickets cost €7.50 per month and are on sale in Morrisseys and Sharkeys shops or from any of the committee members.
Bus Eireann - Recently the daily service off Bus Eireann stopping in Johnstown has ceased. A shuttle service through Johnstown linking up with Bus Eireann in Portlaoise is now in progress. This is only on a trial basis for 6 weeks and needs to be fully utilised. The times are Johnstown to Portlaoise..8.40am,10.40,12.40, 14.40, 16.40, 18.40. Portlaoise to Johnstown.. 9.20am, 11.20, 13.20, 17.20 19.20. This service includes Cullahill, Durrow and Abbeyleix.
Adult Education - Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown offers PLC Fetac level 5 and 6 courses in September. Courses in Business and Secretarial Studies, Business Admin, Engineering Technology and Agricultural modules, Early Childhood care and Education Level 5, Early Childhood Care level 6 are also available. Cemetery Masses - All Cemetery Masses in the parish are now completed. The final Mass in Donoughmore had to be celebrated in St. Kieran’s Church owing to the bad weather. It was the first time in 20 years that the weather prevented the celebration in Donoughmore Cemetery. Many thanks to the people who keep the old cemetery in such good condition.
St Annes Camogie Club news - St Anne’s Camogie club hosted the U8 Camogie Blitz on a beautiful sunny day in Galmoy GAA grounds. The girls had a great time and well done to all of them for their commitment and dedication, a credit to their parents and their trainers Cha Duggan and Johnny McCarthy. A hugh thanks you to all the coaches and mentors of all the teams who took part on a brilliant day. There was a great turn out with teams from Clara, Gowran and Lisdowney taking part. A special thanks to Helen Glendon, Niamh Glendon and Hannah Drennan and to all the other parents who helped in any way. Thanks to Nicholas Ryan caretaker of the Galmoy GAA field who had the grounds in terrific shape for the occasion.
