RUGBY - Knocktopher Normans Rugby Club had its AGM in Carroll’s Hotel, Knocktopher last week. New appointments were made as follows: President - Clive Moriarty, Treasurer - Shane Roche, Secretary - Thomas Kelly.  The team will be entered in the J5 Leinster League this year and all new members are welcome. Training takes place every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7-9 in the old hurling field, Knocktopher and if you are interested, call over to training or email thomaskelly796@hotmail.com.

Kilkenny - Kilkenny are in the All-Ireland semi-final! They will play Tipperary on 19 August. The Ballyhale Shamrocks men (Henry, Michael, Colin and TJ) were all prominent in Kilkenny’s defeat of Limerick last Sunday in Thurles with Henry back to excellent form and a tally of 2-6. Colin put Henry in for one goal and was himself the scorer of a goal later in the game. Michael was a powerhouse at centre-field while TJ played a very important role after coming on as a sub. Ticket details will no doubt be forthcoming from Shamrocks club secretary Sean O’Sullivan.

Parachute - Well done to Angela Ireland-O’Sullivan who took part in a sponsored parachute jump in aid of suicide awareness. She jumped from a plane flying at 10,000 feet over Waterford Airport last Friday in front of family and friends. It is still possible to offer Angela sponsorship money for her achievement - and a worthy cause.

Christening - Congratulations to Lilly Joan O’Sullivan who was Christened last Saturday in front of the O’Sullivan and O’Keeffe familes and some close friends. She is the daughter of Michael O’Sullivan (Derrynahinch) and Mairead O’Keeffe (Ballybooden). They held a family party in Andy’s afterwards.

Birthday - Happy Birthday to Brigid Kennedy who had a big birthday bash in Andy’s last Saturday night. Brigy had been ill in recent weeks and had even spent some time in hospital. She has been recovering at home since. She was expecting a quiet night out with Kevin and the Kiely family to mark her 70th Birthday. At 10pm up in Kiely’s they ‘suggested’ they go to Andy’s to see a band playing. When they arrived at Andy’s Brigy was genuinely surprised to see her family, including her grandsons recently home from Pakistan, neighbours and friends gathered waiting for her. They sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her as she came in the door and the party continued from there!
