Field day only a month away

The Annual Danesfort Parish Field Day will be held on Sunday September 2 with the venue being the Sevenhouse’s Coursing Grounds, as usual. Raffle tickets will be distributed this month - there are a large number of excellent prizes. Donation of vegetables, plants, baking and home produce are requested. Timber for firewood for the auction is also required. More information will be given regarding events at a later date. Can you also include that there are trade stands available in the field. BARBEQUE - Bank Holiday Barbeque: Looking for something different this weekend?? Why not stay local and head to the Kings Riverside barbeque in Ennisnag this coming Friday and Saturday to enjoy wonderful food, song and dance. The weekend begins with a night for teenagers on Friday 9.00pm, with music by “The Elevator Music”, then disco until midnight. Get texting and invite your friends to this great outdoor event. There will be adult supervision throughout the evening with mineral bar only. Adm. €12 includes BBQ and mineral. Then on Saturday, it’s a night for all you adults to kick your keels up to the musical sound of “Gerry Walsh and Dallas” at 9.00pm followed by DJ Gerry until late. Not to be missed. CIRCUIT TRAINING - Circuit Training with Margaret McCarthy every Friday in Danesfort Community Centre from 7.00pm until 8.00pm. The circuit stations are adapted to suit beginners and experienced exercisers. Circuit training will help you tone, lose weight and get fit. You can work at your own pace with a mixture of weight training and cardiovascular work.  Classes are suitable for all age groups (teenagers to adults). Adults: €30 (5 weeks) or €7 individual.Teenagers: €20 (5 weeks) or €5 individual. Contact Margaret 086 8355725

COLLECTION - The collection held at Danesfort on July 22 for The Irish Society for Autism amounted to E155. Sincere thanks to all contributors.

TOWNSHIP CHALLENGE -Transition Year Students take on the Niall Mellon Township Challenge: At the end of the year, Liam Mullen will travel to South Africa on what will be his 11th Township Challenge. This year, Liam will bring 4 transition year students with him, including his daughter Cliodhna. The students, who must fund their costs before travelling, have organized a 5k/10k Walk or Run “Family Day” in Woodstock Gardens, Inistiogue. This will take place on Sunday 12th August at 12pm. CEMETERY MASS - The final Cemetery Masses in the parish for 2012 will be held in Ennisnag Cemetery, this Thursday August 2 at 7:30pm.

BALLYKEEFFE - Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre will be alive over the next few weeks. The renowned Saw Doctors will take the stage on Saturday August 4. Under 16′s must be accompanied by an adult.  No alcohol allowed on admission.  Refreshments with a fully licensed bar will be available at venue. The Music will continue on Saturday August 18 with the appearance of Maria Doyle Kennedy, Liam O’Manlaoi and Ronan O’Snodaigh. WALK ON THE WILD SIDE - Join local herbalist Jenny Dunne for an herb identification walk in the stunning woodlands of Ballykeeffe. Get a sense of the myriad of healing plants and their uses that grow in abundance in our native countryside. The walk will take place on Saturday August 25 between 2pm and 4pm. This is a free event.

CRAFTS - Callan Indoor Food & Craft Market takes place in Droichead Family Resource Centre, The Friary, Mill St. in Callan on Friday from 9am – 2pm. Produce on offer: Fresh Fruit & Veg, Cakes, Breads, Eggs, Savory dishes, Fresh local Meat, Handcrafted Cards, Calendars, Hair Fascinators, Turned & Sculpted Wood, Sewing & Knitted embroidered gifts, Jewellery and handmade soap . All are welcome to come along, have a browse or buy some locally produced products at very reasonable prices. You can relax in our Café and have a cup of tea. We appreciate all support given.
