NAOMH BRID CAMOGIE CLUB - On Monday July 23rd, the Under 12 team travelled to Urlingford for a re-fixed League game, against the home side. Unfortunately, due to holidays and other commitments there were six absentees from the squad. Nevertheless, a young team was fielded and even in defeat they gave a good account of themselves. Naomh Brid won the toss and Katie Brennan decided to play with the breeze in the first half .The early exchanges were even and both teams had their chances, before Urlingford scored a goal after seven minutes. They added a point five minutes later but Zara Gunner kept Naomh Brid in the game with a point from play. There was only that goal between the teams for much of the second half as Naomh Brid, inspired by Emer O’ Doherty and Katie Brennan, defended heroically. After ten minutes Urlingford scored a second goal. The Naomh Brid backs continued to work hard as they tackled, hooked and cleared, with Chieu Phelan and Niamh Morrissey very effective in their blocking. Before the end, the bigger and dominant home team added two goals, as Naomh Brid moved forward in an attempt to save the game. A late Naomh Brid attack almost yielded a goal, but Clodagh O’ Doherty’s shot was stopped and cleared. The final score was 4-1 to 0-1. The Naomh Brid supporters were very proud of the team which as always did their best. Zoe Gleeson did well in goal despite being under a lot of pressure, Sinead Morrissey showed some nice touches, while Aoibhe Waters and Kiara Walsh competed well for the ball .Sinead Walshe had a steady game at midfield, Lauren Phelan worked hard throughout, while Michaela Ryan maintained her good form in attack. Naomh Brid team - Zoe Gleeson, Chieu Phelan, Emer O’ Doherty, Niamh Morrissey, Katie Brennan, Lauren Phelan, Sinead Morrissey, Sinead Walshe, Zara Gunner, Michaela Ryan, Aoibhe Waters.
