All Merit to Stephen

Stephen O’Brien (Templeorum) the hardworking and diligent treasurer of Piltown GAA Club was recently presented with a Certificate of Merit for Landscape Construction and Maintenance, a FETAC course which took place in Piltown Community Centre as part of the Back To Education Initiative. The award was presented at a ceremony in Langtons, by former chairperson of Kilkenny council, Mary Hilda Cavanagh. Stephen is well known within community circles and especially within the GAA.

MORRIS OIL 10K - The fourth and final race in this year’s Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge, organised by Carrick-on-Suir Athletics Club, will be the annual MorrisOil.ie Piltown 10k on Friday next, 3rd August. The race is run over a fast course with the first mile and a half on the grounds of Kildalton Horticultural College. Runners exit the college grounds at the top of the village of Piltown and then take in some quiet country roads before finishing for the first time on the Piltown GAA club grounds. If you are looking for a personal best time over the 10k distance, then this race provides an ideal opportunity. Parking and registration (Race entry is €10) will be at Piltown GAA Club from 6pm where there will also be shower facilities and of course the post-race refreshments and prize-giving. Online registration is also available on http://www.runireland.com/ . The race will start at 7:30pm just inside the gates of Kildalton College (across the road from Piltown GAA club). ROAD CLOSURE - Kilkenny County Council have served notice that the N24 (2+1 Road) between the Tower Road junction (Piltown) and the Fiddown Interchange, in the eastbound direction will be closed between 9pm and 6am on one evening only between Tuesday, 7th August and Friday, 10th August. Diversions will be through Piltown Village. The closure is to facilitate the installation of traffic counters.

FUN DAY - Piltown Juvenile GAA Club is planning to run a fun day for all players and their families on the afternoon of 12th August at 1:30pm. Some games with local clubs will be followed by games, fun and social events for all ages. All support for the local GAA club is welcome.

CAMOGIE BLITZ - Piltown hosted an Under-8 Camogie Blitz at the weekend where they recorded a win over Glenmore, a draw with Mooncoin and a defeat to Carrickshock. Overall, it was a fun morning in nice sunshine for the young Piltown girls. Well done to the young referees from the Féile squad, Lisa Norris, Sophie Holden and Alanna Gallagher. Also on Saturday, the Under-16 team travelled to Sixmilebridge to play the Clare Under-14 county team in a challenge game

COUNTDOWN TO IVERK SHOW - 186 years since the first Iverk Show, Ireland’s oldest agricultural show will take place on Saturday 25th August. Preparations are believed to be well in hand as the show continues its spot of the last Saturday in August. The closing date for entries is 10th August, although some classes take entries on the day such as show jumping and the dog show.

ARTS AND CRAFTS - The following are the adult classes for the Arts and Craft section of the Iverk Show. Closing date for entries is 12th August 2012. No exhibitor will be awarded more than one prize in any one class. Only items not previously displayed at the Iverk Show will be accepted. All exhibits must remain on display until 5 pm on Show Day.
