Handball -Kilfane Leinster & All Ireland Handball Kilfane had a big week at Leinster and All Ireland Level. No fewer than 7 club players were involved representing Kilkenny. First up was Noel Holden in Masters B singles he played Pat Murphy of Limerick in the All Ireland Semi Final. Noel played his best handball so far this year to win 2 games to nil to reach the All Ireland Final on the weekend 17-19th August. In girls U12 Doubles Dearbhail O’Keeffe & Edel Mulhollland teamed up together to play Kildare. They won the first game but lost the 2nd and lost out in the tie break game. In Girls U14 singles Aoife Holden had a great win over Lauren Farrelly of Meath in two straight games. Aoife now meets Munster opposition in the All Ireland Semi Final. Niamh O’Shea played in U16 singles in the Leinster Final. Niamh played well but lost out to a strong Wexford player. In the boys U12 Doubles Jack Barcoe and Robert Dowling played very well together and were unlucky to lose the 1st game against Wexford. In the 2nd it was close all the way but the Wexford lads took the tiltle. Boys U15 Doubles In one of the games of the day the Boys U 15 Doubles was a close encounter. Kilfane’s Dylan Caulfield and partner Sean Carey Goresbridge really turned on the style when it mattered most. Dylan’s strong serving and Sean’s stylish play on the right hand side were a feature of the game. The Kilkenny boys won the first game, in the 2nd game at 14 to 10 down a tie break game looked on the cards but the lads got back in to win a thriller 15 to 14 and were crowned Leinster Champions . The boys play Munster opposition in the All-Ireland Semi Final. Well done to all who participated. The Kilfane Adult Handball Club tournament Final was played on Friday 27th in front of a large crowd. After many great games in the earlier rounds it was down to two Kells players Brendan Burke and Ger McGrath to see who would be crowned champion. In the second game Brendan played brilliant handball while Ger was unlucky with lots of kill shots that missed narrowly. Brendan took the second game 21-4 and crowned Clarke Cup Champion for 2012. After the game Tom O’Keeffe & Chairman Jim Kenny McGrath assisted Pamela O ‘Keeffe who was representing the Hal Clarke family to make the presentations to Winner Brendan, Runner up Ger and all the group winners and runners up.The night was finished off with teas, sandwiches, buns etc in the Club room.
