Bagenalstown: There is pride in this place

PRIDE OF PLACE COMPETITION - June 21, 2012 was a momentous day for the people of Bagenalstown. Not only did the illusive sun shine but the Co-Operation Ireland Judges, Domhnal Connolly and William Beatty arrived to inspect our entrant in this year’s competition. The community of Bagenalstown proudly took up the challenge of representing Carlow in 2012 and left judges overwhelmed with the warm welcome and amazed with the dazzling exhibitions. The Carlow Local Authorities were immensely proud of the programme rolled out on the day by the vibrant and enthusiastic community of Bagenalstown, as months of hard work finally came to a glorious fruition. This appreciation was shown to all involved on Wednesday, Oct. 3, as those who played a role and contributed to Co Operation Pride of Place 2012 gathered in the County Council Chamber, County Buildings, Athy Road, where Carlow Local Authorities hosted a reception for the community of Bagenalstown. The Cathaoirligh and County Manager will formally acknowledge and thank our 2012 entrants for the tremendous effort in the preparations for June 21. The entrant received a Certificate in recognition of their efforts. “It was great to see again the new and old friends that we have made in the Community of Bagenalstown,” said Director of Services Bernie O Brien, “the enthusiastic work of that community, and the tremendous welcome and co operation of the locals and agencies in Bagenalstown made a huge impact on the members, management and staff of Carlow Local Authorities” she added. After Tuesday, the community will only have a month to wait for the National Awards night, which will be held in Thomond, Co. Limerick on Saturday, November 3. Members, Management and Staff of Carlow Local Authorities wish them every success.

HIGH TEA AND TALK - Leighlinbridge ICA Guild will be hosting a High Tea & Talk (coffee morning!)in the Community Centre on Thursday October 18 at 10.30am, proceeds will go towards Suicide Awareness. All are welcome to come and have a cup of coffee and a bun and support this worthy cause.

INFORMATION STAND - The Carlow Volunteer Centre will hold an Information Stand in Bagenalstown on Friday. Oct. 12 in Bagenalstown Credit Union 10am to 12.45pm. Information is available on many different volunteering opportunities around the south of the county. PRESENTATION - The Presentation Night of the Mt. Leinster Way Walk will take place on Sat. Oct. 20 in Coote’s Pub, Main Street. The amount raised this year was €10,000.
