Mrs Kitty Purcell RIP - The death of Kitty Purcell, St. Kieran’s Place, Johnstown occurred last week at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny. Widow of the late Dick Purcell, Kitty was a member of the Carroll Family, Bawnmore but had lived in Johnstown for many years. She was a great favourite in her locality as she was of a friendly personality and had a cheery word for everyone. Known for her great love of music particularly traditional Irish music. She was also known for her set dancing ability in her youth. Her other great interest was gardening and she spent many happy hours growing her own vegetables and flowers. She will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters, sisters in law,nieces, nephews, many friends, relations and neighbours. Her funeral Mass took place on Sat in St Kieran’s Church followed by burial in Johnstown Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Irish Heart Foundation - A big “heart walk” in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation will take place on Oct 14th from the Pavilion, Galmoy registration at 11.30am and the 7km walk will commence at 11.45am. All are welcome.

Whist Drive - The Whist drive in St. Mary’s Hall last Friday night was well supported. All monies raised were donated to the Niall Mellon Building Fund. The winners on the night were...top score Paddy Delaney and Jimmy Muldowney, other winners Bridie Boland, Laoise Holland,Marie McCarthy,Henry Cooke,Annie Walshe,Emma Caldbeck,Veronica Muldowney, Kitty Butler, Catriona Cuddihy, Michael Maher, JohnMc Ginley, Veronica Rob inson, Garoid Dunne,Richard Caldbeck, Alison Caldbeck,Stephen Robinson. The next whist drive in St. Mary’s Hall will be held on Friday Oct 26th starting at 8.30 pm. This will be a fund raiser fro the North Kilkenny Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association.
