Ballyragget: Jane and Carmel remembered

LATE JANE SAUNDERS- Jane Saunders. Grove Terrace who passed away this last week. Jane was a true supporter of everyone; she cared deeply for every member of the Ballyragget parish and all her friends, work colleagues, and Olympic team mates. She had a kind word for everyone and was always in good spirits. She will be deeply missed by her family, her parents Pat and Bridie, her brother John, and nephew Luke, friends and neighbours. She supported the hurling, football and camogie teams of the parish and was there at each and every game this year as St Patricks went on to win the Club All Ireland in Croke Park. She attended the semi final in Nenagh on the eve of departure for the European championships and was back to support them on the big day in Croke Park and indeed was front and centre at the stage at the homecoming. This year was truly a great year for Jane in her love for GAA, as her top three teams all won All Ireland titles, Ballyragget firstly followed by her mother’s native Donegal and finally Kilkenny. Jane brought great honour to the town of Ballyragget when she won silver and bronze medals in the Olympic Games. She will be missed around the town, waiting for the morning bus to work in the Brewery or SOS with her paper under her arm, walking her beloved dog Rosie, and at Sunday morning mass lighting candles before and chatting with all after. Indeed the huge crowds who attended her rosary, removal and funeral mass were a testament to the lives she touched in her short time here. Godspeed Jane and take care.

LATE CARMEL MOONEY - We would also like to extend deepest sympathies to the Mooney family of Attanagh on the death of Carmel to her husband Henry, children Helen, Mary, Martin, Paul, Sharon, and Colm, grandchildren Shane, Evan, Daniel, Sophie and Lauren, her brothers Paddy, Noel, John, Jim, Nicholas and Dominic, her sons-in-law Graham, Emmet and Andrew, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, friends and work colleagues. Carmel was firstly a family woman; she cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbours. She worked in An Post and loved her job there. Her support of the Ballyragget team was never more evident than when the Under 21 team won the Roinn A County Final last year and the team with her nephew John made sure to take the cup to her after the game.
