Soccer - Thomastown United Junior A side welcomed Stoneyford to United PArk in the 2nd round of the Pat Maher Shield. It was Thomastown who grabbed this game by the tail and powered home 4-0 winners with the goals coming from Eamon Lyster (2), Steven Connolly and Andy Kavanagh. Great all round team performance The Ladies opened their Season with a home game in the Shield against Tullaroan. Thomastown started off great and had a few chances in the first half which they couldnt convert and held Tullaroan until half time. With just 20 minutes gone int he second half Tullaroan finally got through the Thomastown defence and snatched the first goal and the second wasnt to long away either. Final score 2-0. The U11 A-team hosted Evergreen last weekend in their League match and it turned out to be a high scoring affair as the points were shared in a 10 goal thriller ! The home team didnt start well and found themselves yet 2 nil up after 8 minutes, Pat Brennan finishing well and then Zak Bay Hammond using his speed to sprint clear and finish well. But then the home team seemed to go into defensive meltdown for the rest of the half and the goals flowed for Evergreen who led 4-2 at half time. The home dressing room was the scene of raised voices at half time as an answer was sought and the response from the lads was good as they fought back. Plenty of chances were created and eventually a goal came from P.Brennan. But another defensive error led to evergreen’s 5th and things looked bad only for that man Brennan to give some hope when he converted from the penalty spot. Now it was all out attack and to all’s amazement it was captain fantastic Brennan who levelled with 3 minutes left. There was even a late chance for victory when Cillian Lawrence raced clear, rounded the last defender but the keeper saved with his body. what a match. best of the rest were S.Kearney,P.Connellan and L.Hehir.
