Gowran: Cleeres Bar on top

CLEERES BAR MAINTAIN TOP SPOT-Last week Cleere’s Bar played out a scoreless draw with Average Joes in Division Two of the Kilkenny & District Floodlit league to consolidate top spot of the league on goal difference. Played on a cold frosty nite, chances for the majority of the game were few and far between as goalkeeper Brian Whelan had to produce a superb save to deny Average Joes, while Cathal Power early in the second-half smashed a shot narrowly wide of the target.

Cleere’s had to soak up plenty of Average Joes pressure during the closing 10 minutes, as Average Joes had 3 goal chances. The best of those opportunities was when Whelan brilliantly pulled off a one-handed save that was destined for the bottom corner.

Cleere’s overall defended well and will have been happy with the point that maintains top spot.

Last night Cleere’s were in action against Bretts of Mullinahone in the final round of league matches before the Christmas/New Year break.
