Conahy: Playgroup say thanks

CONAHY COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP-A big thank you goes to all the people in the locality who recently supported a fundraising cabaret in the GAA Clubhouse in aid of Conahy Community Playgroup. Thanks to local musician Monica Conroy and friends - John, Dave and Dunf who provided such brilliant traditional Irish music and song on the night (Whiskers of Lichen), to Liam Brennan who sang and played guitar and Kim Kavanagh who performed some Irish dancing. Thanks also to everyone who donated such generous prizes for the raffle and door prizes, to Padraig Downey who acted as M.C., to the clubhouse staff and all who sold tickets - your support is very much appreciated by the Playgroup committee and good wishes for the Christmas season are extended to all who attend and support the Playgroup.

FOOTBALL-The under-16 footballers are in action this Saturday afternoon when they face Emeralds in the Roinn C county final. The throw in time for the game is 2 p.m. with no venue fixed at the time of writing.

SCHOOLS FOOTBALL-The school ladies football team came desperately close to winning a much deserved county title as they were recently defeated by Coon-Muckalee in a thrilling county final in Freshford. Having been behind from an early stage after conceding a pair of goals, the Conahy girls came thundering back into the game in the second half. They did so well that they eventually led by a point as the game wound down to the final minutes. However, disaster struck when the Coon-Muckalee girls broke through the Conahy defence and to finish the ball to the net and secure a dramatic one-point victory. Despite losing, the local girls, along with their coaches Kieran Cuddihy, Miriam Mulhall and Deirdre Leahy deserve immense praise for their performance and how well they represented their families and their schools.

TEAM: Laura Kennedy, Ruth Hennessy, Amanda Molloy, Roisin Nolan, Cara Brennan, Shannon Connery, Hannah Murphy, Clare Maher, Alice Byrne, Eve Ring, Grace Mulhall, Chloe Leahy, Megan Cuddihy, Lisa Coogan, Robyn Creadon, Yvonne Dooley, Aoife Mulhall, Lydia O’Mahony.

LOTTO-The numbers in the recent Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club Lotto draw were 10, 11 and 34. The promoters’ prize winners were Mary Harding, Margaret Buggy and Peter Mulhall. This week’s jackpot now stands at €4,500.
