AWARDS EVENTS - Dunnamaggin Hurling Club & Kilmoganny Football club will host a Juvenile Awards evening at 5.00 p.m. followed by an Adult Awards night & Cabaret at 9.00 p.m. in The Priory Bar, Kells on this Saturday 16th February 2013. Your support would be very welcome.
Dunnamaggin hurling club & Kilmoganny football club held a Juvenile awards evening and an adult awards night and cabaret on Saturday night in the Priory Bar, Kells. The U 14 panel that won their hurling league and also won their football championship were presented with their medals. The schools football team were also presented with their runners up medals. Co-players David Herity and William Phelan presented both panels with their medals. At the adult awards night Andrew Hickey took home the award for player of the year. While the Shirley cup for clubman of the year went to John Fitzpatrick. Co-players Noel Hickey, Davy Herity and William Phelan also received presentations for their involvement in the All-Ireland winning Kilkenny team.

Football - Kilmoganny footballers suffered their first defeat in league last Saturday in Palmerstown at the hands of Dicksboro. The home team got off to a dream start scoring 1 - 2 without reply. Kilmoganny got a point back through William Hughes. Dicksboro got two more points to go 1 - 4 to 0 - 1, before Colin Herity then scored a good point following good passing through Sean Connery and Kenny Moore. Dicksboro then pointed before half time to send them in on a half time score of 1 - 5 to 0 - 3.

Dicksboro opened the second half with a point. Then followed a purple patch for Kilmoganny with Darren Fitzpatrick getting a point from play, Kieran Bergin one from a free, Darren Fitzpatrick getting another point from play, followed by 2 points from frees by Kieran Bergin leaving score at 1- 7 to 0 - 8 with about 6 minutes to go. However, it was Dicksboro who had the last say by getting the final point and winning on a score line of 1 - 8 to 0 - 8. Despite this loss Kilmoganny are still top of the league table.

Charity - A charity sky dive in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland will be undertaken by Johanna Cody and her sister Aishling on March 9th 2013. A fund raising Coffee Morning will be held in St. Leonard’s Hall, Dunamaggan on Friday 1st March in support of the venture. Your support for this very worthy venture would be appreciated.

Camogie - The Windgap camogie A.G.M. will takes place on Friday 22nd February 2013 in the GAA Clubrooms, Windgap at 8.00 p.m.. The Club which has a very large membership from Dunamaggan would welcome as much support as possible from those who have an interest in Camogie in the Parishes of Dunamaggan and Windgap and to hear views and suggestions for the coming year. The Club officials guarantee that only those who are willing will be asked to undertake responsibilities in the club for the coming year. The Club wishes to express its thanks to all who supported the club during the past year whether it was on or off the field. All are welcome to attend the meeting on Next Friday at 8.00 p.m.

SCHOOL ENROLMENTS - St. Leonard’s N.S, Dunamaggan, St. Eoghan’s N.S., Kilmoganny and St. Brigid’s N.S, Kells are currently taking enrolments for September 2013. It is important for schools to have their enrolments confirmed as early as possible so that applications for any resources which may be needed are made as soon as possible. Application forms can be obtained from the schools by phone or visit.

WINDGAP PROGRESSIVE 25’S - The monthly Progressive Twenty Five Card Drive in aid of Windgap Hurling Club will take place in Guinan’s in Windgap on Friday next 22nd February at 8.45 p.m.. All are welcome.

ANNUAL TABLE QUIZ - in aid of St Leonard’s N.S., Dunamaggan will take place in Shirley’s Pub Kells on this Saturday February 23rd at 9.00 p.m. A Table of 4 is €40. Your support is very welcome.

KELLS HANDBALL CLUB - In the Adult County 40 x 20 Championships in Junior Singles Dan Breen (Kells) defeated Shane Walsh (Windgap) and John Fitzgerald (Kells) gave a walkover to Aaron Butler (Windgap); in Masters B Doubles Pat Funchion and Paddy Fennelly (Kells) defeated John Duggan/Jim Dooley (O’Loughlin’s); in Minor Singles Brendan Hyland (Kells) defeated Ronan Egan (Clogh); in Senior Singles Peter Funchion (Kells) received a walkover from Ducksy Walsh (Talbots Inch); in Masters C Singles Tom Condon (Kells) was beaten by Michael Dalton (Kilfane).

In the Juvenile County 40 x 20 Championships the representatives for Kells were in U 10 Singles Shaun O’Keeffe, in U 11 Singles Joe Cowhig, in Girls U 10 Singles Sonya Stanley and in Girls U 11 Singles Ciara Walsh. The Boys U 10 Doubles were Harry Delaney and Shaun O’Keeffe (Kells) and the Boys U 11 Doubles were Joe Cowhig and Tomas Leahy (Kells); the Girls U 11 Doubles were Hannah Lodge and Breanna O’Dwyer (Kells), who all played well but did not reach the finals. The winners of the Girls U 10 Doubles were Sonya Stanley and Sarah Condon (Kells).

In the Leinster Juvenile 40 x 20 Championships in U 13 Singles Eoin Brennan (Kells) defeated Cillian Hogan (Kildare); in U 15D Roy Cullen (Kells) and James Culleton (Windgap) were beaten by Sean Muddiman and Jack Tobin (Kildare) and in Girls U 16 Singles Kirsty Maher (Kells) defeated Aine O’Keeffe (Kildare).

In the 3rd level colleges 40 x 20 John Fitzgerald (UL and Kells) was beaten by Aaron Geoghegan (UCC) in the Men’s AB Singles and by Alan Armstrong (UCD) in the Men’s B Singles 11-5 in the tie breaker.

The late Paddy Davis - Paddy Davis, Tinvaun died peacefully in his home on Friday last. He is survived by his wife Bridie, son Jim and daughter Margaret, grandchildren, in-laws, nephews and nieces many relatives and friends. Paddy was in his 91st year. He was a life-long member of the farming community. He had a great love of greyhounds and his greatest triumph was when he won the Irish Cup in the late 1980’s. His remains were removed from his home to the Friary in Knocktopher on Saturday evening where they were received by Rev. Laurence Lynch O.Carm.. The mass of Christian burial was celebrated by Rev. L. Lynch O.Carm assisted by members of the Carmelite community. He was laid to rest in the family grave in the ancient Kilree Cemetery. Prayers at the graveside were recited by Rev. Nicholas Flavin P.P. and the decade of the rosary by Fr. Heaslip O.Carm.
