Clogh/Moonenroe - Juvenile handballers do well

SCHOOLS HANDBALL - Juvenile Players from Clogh Handball Club contested three out of four of Cumann na mBunscoil finals last week.

In Under 11 Singles, Kyle Dunne (Moneenroe National School) defeated Peter McDonald (Thomastown NS) in the semi final. In the other semi final Jamie Maher (Boys School Castlecomer) beat Séan Purcell (Windgap NS) leaving an all Clogh Handball Club Final in which Kyle Dunne overcame Jamie Maher.

The Under 13 Singles saw 8 schools participate in the quarter finals. Jack Buggy (Firoda NS) beat Justin Cahill (St Johns NS), Billy O Neill (Boys School Castlecomer) beat David Blanchfield (Bennettsbridge NS), Ciaran Cooney (Clogh NS) beat Dylan Crehan (Kells NS). The semi finals saw Jack Buggy beat Jack Hayes (WIndgap NS) and Ciaran Cooney beat BIlly O Neill to leave another all Clogh Handball Club final in which Ciaran Cooney overcame Jack Buggy.

In Under 13 Doubles Thomas Brennan and Tom Buggy (Moneenroe NS) beat Sean Fitzpatrick and Stephen Law (Mullinavat) in the quarter final but were beaten by Jack Holden and Jack Barcoe (Thomastown NS) in the semi final, James Love and Eamon Brennan (Clogh NS) received a walk over in the quarter final due to an injury and went on to beat Robert Culleton and Sean Dunne (Windgap NS) in the semi final but were beaten by Thomas town NS in the final

Well done to all the local juveniles who put on a great display of handball and good luck to Kyle Dunne (Moneenroe NS) in the Under 11 Singles and Ciaran Cooney (Clogh NS) in Under 13 Singles who now go onto represent Kilkenny schools in the Leinster championships.

CROAGH PATRICK - With Lent already begun, St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching which means the Clogh trip to Croagh Patrick is getting closer. Already a number of people have signed up for the trip which includes climbing the famous holy mountain. As St. Patrick’s Day fall on a Sunday, the following day Monday 18th is a bank holiday the group will travel to County Mayo on Sunday morning, stay overnight in Westport that night and make the return journey on Monday. The event is being organised by Clogh Community Council and there are still some vacancies for people who would like to travel. Contact Milo on 086 2053988.

CATERING SERVICE- Local chef Paddy Power has announced that he is setting up a catering service based in the Parish Centre. Paddy will provide hot or cold food for parties such as First Communion, Confirmation, Christening and Birthdays. His menues will include Barbeques and pub parties.
