And now its a duathlon for Mount Juliet

Kilkenny Triathlon Club has launched its inaugural club race, ‘The KTC Duathlon 2012’ which will be held in the scenic surrounds of Mount Juliet, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny on Saturday, March 10.

Over 150 athletes are expected to race, ranging from experienced racers to those completely new to the sport. It is also hoped that some of Ireland’s top triathletes will take part.

“We are delighted to invite the Kilkenny Triathlon Club to Mount Juliet for this inaugural event. We are sure it will prove to be a very successful and exciting day,” said William Kirby, general manager, Mount Juliet.

The race will consist of a 3km run within the picturesque grounds of Mount Juliet; a 19km cycle through the surrounding countryside and back into Mount Juliet for the final 3km run.

For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a duathlon offers a fantastic way to dip your toe into the sport. So whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or you’re taking on your first challenge, this event will prove the perfect setting.

“Duathlons and triathlons are experiencing huge growth in Ireland, seen no more clearly than with the success of the triathlon in Kilkenny City last summer. With such a stunning backdrop on offer at Mount Juliet we aim to put Kilkenny right on the map for duathlons as well,” said Dara Fahy, Duathlon Race Director.

Online entry opens today (Wednesday). To find out more about the event and to enter visit the club website www.kilkennytriathlonclub.com or email duathlon@kilkennytriathlonclub.com.

Kilkenny Triathlon Club is Kilkenny’s only club dedicated to the three sports of swimming, cycling and running. It was founded in January 2011 with the aim to promote triathlon, introduce local people to the sport and to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The club is always looking for new members and welcomes people of all abilities.
