Dream ends for Cats as Tipperary halt the drive for five

KILKENNY senior hurlers bid to create history ended with defeat to Tipperary in the All-Ireland SHC final.

An attendance of over 82,000 witnessed The Cats attempt to come to terms with the hunger and desire of Tipperary, last year's beaten finalists.

A first half goal from Lar Corbett sparked a strong period of Tipperary domninance.

The loss of Henry Shefflin, a recurrence of his knee injury suggested that it was not going to be Kilkenny's day.

But Kilkenny fought back and were just a point behind at half time, thanks to a Richie Power goal, 1-9 to 1-10.

A sweet sideline from TJ Reid three minutes in to the second period brought the sides level, and while Kilkenny had their chances, it was Tipperary who powered on to secure an eight point win, 4-17 to 1-18 and their first senior hurling All-Ireland since 2001.
