CBS win at their ease

Kilkenny CBS 1-10 Good Counsel 0-7

Kilkenny CBS got off to a flying start, and after dashing 1-4 to no score ahead when wind assisted, they never came under any real pressure when beating Good Counsel (New Ross) to secure a place against St Peter’s College (Wexford) in the semi-finals of the Leinster colleges senior hurling championship in Thomastown on Saturday.

Free taker Ciaran Doyle punished the losers carelessness in the tackle when shooting four scores, and boosted by a scrambled goal from Philip Campion the winners were 1-4 clear by the 16th minute. Good Counsel got off the scoring mark through Mark Mansfield (free) in the 25th minute, but they were still 0-3 to 1-6 behind at the break.

The CBS started the second half with a pair of points from Doyle, and while the ’Counsel were honest in their efforts, they simply had no penetration up front. Seventeen minutes passed before they added to their total through defender, Gary Bennett, and while Mansfield and Peadar Cody added to that they never got close enough to unduly trouble the determined CBS.
