Coaches get chance to learn football Fundamentals
TRAINERS and mentors interested in learning more about Ladies Gaelic football have the chance to add more elements to their game at a special coaching course.
The Fundamentals course, which will be held in Castlecomer Community School on Sunday, February 25, is the first in a series for coaches and mentors. The course is run by experienced tutors from the Ladies Gaelic Football Association.
The course offers an introduction to good coaching practices where mentors gain an insight into the theory of successful coaching and have the opportunity on the day to do some practical work. This in turn will be followed in the coming months by the Level One course – Raising The Bar.
Experienced coaches are encouraged to attend as the tutors will gear the course towards the level of experience of each participant. In the near future it will be compulsory that all ladies football coaches at juvenile and adult level have completed Fundamentals.
The course is ideal for mentors involved with juveniles, adults, school teams or Gaelic for Mothers teams. Participants must be over 16 years of age, so younger players can attend and benefit from the day.
The cost of the Fundamentals course is €25 per person, based on 20 participants. Bookings to Caitriona Corr, tel 056-7720870 or email caitriona@krsp.ie. The course runs from 10am to 4pm, with lunch provided.
Leinster Championships
The county under-14 side are busy preparing for their provincial opener against Longford on March 3, with excellent attendance at training in recent weeks. The girls have an away trip to Longford, followed by home venues against Westmeath, Offaly, Louth and Carlow.
The under-16 side will also be in action on March 3 when they play host to Wicklow. With a number of girls completing mock exams attendance has been sporadic at training and all players are asked to attend training this weekend.
The county minor girls are first into action when they meet neighbours Carlow next week. Minor training will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm in Thomastown. Newcomers are welcome and a full attendance is essential with a challenge match arranged for Saturday.
Meeting
The annual meeting of the Kilkenny Ladies Gaelic football board was held recently. Officers elected for 2012 were: chairman John Gorey, vice-chairman Joe Fox, joint secretaries Trish Dempsey and Eoin Hennessy, treasurer Richie Windle, PRO Noelle Curran, registrar Trish Dempsey, development officer Caitriona Corr, children’s officers Sheila Norris and Caitriona Corr.
Despite a poor turnout by adult clubs a good discussion was held on underage development and ongoing plans for new juvenile clubs in Graignamanagh and Castlecomer.
