Deadly Daly shoots 'Comer to victory

Erin's Own 0-15

Barrow Rangers 0-14

ERIN’S Own (Castlecomer) picked up another brace of points in the minor hurling league when they beat Barrow Rangers (Paulstown) in a free ridden game at Paulstown. The game lacked continuity and 21 of the 29 scores came from placed balls.

Daly and Michael Whitely exchanged early points from frees before the former added two more from placed balls. ’Rangers then had five unanswered points from Whitely (2 frees), Martin Dormer (free), Tom Brennan and Thomas Whitely to give them a three point lead after 20 minutes.

Daly narrowed the gap from a free and 65 before Aaron Nolan stretched ’Rangers lead with a great score after evading a number of tacklers. Dormer pointed a free before Daly reduced the deficit to the minimum with two pointed frees.

Dormer and Whitely were successful from placed balls and just on half-time ’Comer had their first score from play when John Brennan hit a nice point. This left his side two adrift at the break, 0-8 to 0-10.

Erin’s Own resumed with four unanswered points from Daly, Carron, who punished a short puck-out, Brennan and Michael Carroll. The turning point came midway through the half when ’Rangers were awarded a penalty. Ciaran Doyle was brought down, but Martin Dormer’s well struck shot was saved and the ball was cleared.
