Kilkenny honoured as the greatest as fans flock to pay tribute

The drive for five may have ended, but the Kilkenny senior hurling teams legendary status in the game certainly has not.

At City West on Sunday evening, over 1,000 fans turned up for the All-Ireland banquet and to pay tribute to a team that has dominated hurling over the past decade, winning an incredible seven All-Ireland titles.

While there were celebrations for the minors winning the county's 20th All-Ireland titile, the general theme from the black and amber banquet was that the county will rise again, and quickly.

County Secretary Ned Quinn roused the crowd with the promise that Kilkenny will bounce back for its 33rd All-Ireland title next year.

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody spoke highly of the players and his management colleagues, and said the county rose after 2005 and the defeat to Galway and will do so again.

The team bus arrived at the hotel just after 8pm and hundreds waited outside to wave the black and amber and support the teams.
