Under-15 Cats ready for Carlow challenge

The Kilkenny & District League’s under-15 squad will be in Leinster inter-league action this weekend.

The Cats, who are managed by Mick Manley and Mark Brennan, will begin their provincial campaign with a clash against Carlow on Saturday. There will be an early start for the visitors, as they play in the grounds of Carlow IT at 11.30am.

There has been a change in the format for this year’s schoolboy inter-league competitions, with all group games being held over a single weekend. The new blitz-style format means Kilkenny will contest their second game on Saturday afternoon before playing their third and final group match on Sunday. Saturday’s second game, which is against Wexford, will be played at the home of former Kilkenny & District League side St Pat’s Boys in Graiguecullen and has a 2.30pm kick-off time. After that it’s back to the Carlow IT campus on Sunday for their meeting with the North Dublin Schoolboys’ League. That game will be played at 1pm.

A second Leinster group, made up of Kildare, the Midlands League and Wicklow, will also be held in Carlow over the weekend. The prizes for both group winners are places in the All-Ireland semi-finals, where they will be joined the Munster winners and a team from the Ulster/Connacht section.

The under-15s will be the first Kilkenny inter-league team into action this year. The under-13s, who are being coached by Darren Murray and Ger Brett, will follow when they play Carlow, the Midlands and South Dublin in Wicklow on February 18 and 19. The under-12s, under the guidance of Ronnie Grace and Peter Murtagh, will travel to Dublin for their games against the North Dublin, South Dublin and Wexford Leagues on March 10 and 11.
