There was plenty of fun on Sunday in Callan at the Scoil Ris Field Day when young and old gathered to enjoy the festival-like atmosphere.
Despite concern initially amongst the organisers that numbers would be diminished because of a clash with the McCalmont Cup their worries were unfounded as hundreds turned out in the glorious sunshine. A large team of volunteers were up bright and early to organise the field event, inflatable’s, food stands, book stalls, wheel of fortune, face painting, penalty shooting, pucking a ball into the tyre, brick-a-brack and lots more to entertain the public. It was all about raising funds for the very progressive school who have an excellent staff as well as a very impressive hard working parents council. Such was the crowd nearly every stall was sold out and in particular the hot dog and burger stall which was cleaned out. The organisers were delighted with the turnout and plans are already underway for next year’s event.
