Remembering Foulkstown National School

It was a night to remember as former pupils of Foulkstown National School gathered for a reunion on Saturday night.

Some 200 people attended the event held in the Springhill Court Hotel, and the evening included music and a slide show of photographs as they reminisced about their days in the school, which opened in 1871 and closed its doors for the last time in 1965.

Making the occasion even more special was the presence of Margaret Walsh, who was a teacher in the school. A bouquet of flowers was presented to her on the night by the last student who had registered at the school, Caroline Costigan.

And many fond memories were shared on the occasion.
