Picture Gallery: Special event at Kilkenny's Castle Park for National Day of Commemoration

Family members of those who died in past wars or on UN service and a wide cross-section of the community were invited to attend

The annual National Day of Commemoration ceremony, to honour all those Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations, took place at Kilkenny Castle on Sunday morning.

A large crowd including members of the Defence Forces, local TDs, and the public attended proceedings. During the ceremony, the Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council Eamon Aylward laid a wreath on behalf of the people of Kilkenny.

Family members of those who died in past wars or on UN service and a wide cross-section of the community were invited to attend the event. It was one of seven such events taking place at locations around Ireland, including in Dublin's Collins Barracks.
