A man and a woman in their 70s have died, and two others have been seriously injured, in a crash in Co Louth.

The two-car crash happened at about 3.10pm on Thursday on the R173 at The Bush.

The male driver of one of the cars and the female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the other car and a female passenger, both in their 30s, were airlifted to Beaumont and the Mater hospitals in Dublin with serious injuries.

The road has since been reopened.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was travelling on the R173 between Dundalk and Carlingford between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Thursday to contact them.

In particular, they would like anyone with footage of the area at that time to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
