Oscar winning actor George Clooney is a Cat! The heartthrob is in fact ‘from’ South Kilkenny.
A painstaking search unearthed the derelict house where Mr Clooney’s great-great-grandfather was born and his baptismal cert. George’s antecedent was Nicholas Clooney who was baptised in Windgap church on, July 23, 1829, and was from Knockeen, Tullahought. He emmigrated to America shortly after the Famine.
George is the recipient of three Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. Clooney is also noted for his political activism. He was invovled in campaigns to raise awareness of the Darfur Conflict and the Armenian Genocide. He is also focused on helping Syrian refugees.
