Cillian Murphy's son cast in major Hollywood film alongside Wednesday star Jenna Ortega

The son of Oscar-nominated actor Cillian Murphy has been cast in a major Hollywood film.

According to the Irish Film and Television Network (IFTN), Aran Murphy will make his feature film debut in 'Klara and the Sun', which stars Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega and Oscar-nominated actress, Amy Adams (Arrival).

The Taika Waititi directed flick tells the story of Klara (Ortega), an artificial friend designed to prevent loneliness.

Klara is bought by a mother (Adams) for her teenage daughter Josie (Mia Tharia), who loves her robot companion but suffers from a mysterious illness.

Murphy - who previously starred in the stage adaptation of Maggie O'Farrell's Hamnet - debuts as Josie's best friend and next door neighbour.

The film has been adapted from the Kazuo Ishiguro novel of the same name by screenwriter Dahvi Waller.

Murphy's father is in the running for his first Oscar after his critically-acclaimed portrayal of Robert J. Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

His nomination was announced on January 23, 2024 by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The Oscars ceremony will take place on March 10, 2024.

A release date for 'Klara and the Sun' - which will be produced by 3000 Pictures, Heyday Films and Sony - has not yet been released.
