Good Works Opera and Mid-West Opera have come together to present “Opera at Castalia 2012” on July 7 in Castalia concert hall and amphitheatre in the Camphill Community in Ballytobin, Callan.
They will present The Bear by William Walton (sung in English), Zanetto by Pietro Mascagni (sung in Italian) and Savitri by Gustav Holst (sung in English) – with the common theme of the three operas being that the lady of the house receives an unexpected caller.
The cast will include Joyce Byrne, Imelda Drumm, Regina Hanley, Jean Wallace, Richard Hayes, Eoin Hynes, Gerry Noonan and Rory Musgrave accompanied by Nicole Panizza.
The operas will be performed, weather permitting, outdoors in Castalia Amphitheatre. Patrons are advised to bring a cushion with them and to come dressed appropriately as the evening may be cool.
Attendees are also encouraged to bring a picnic to add to the enjoyment of the evening.
If the weather is unsuitable, the operas will be performed indoors.
The evening’s entertainment will begin at 7pm and will cost €25 per ticket.
Good Works Opera will also perform a concert of Sacred Music at the Black Abbey in aid of the Black Abbey Building Fund on July 6 at 8pm. Tickets are available for €15 from Stone House Books or at the Black Abbey on the night.
