Following their hugely successful world premiere production of “The Stone Musical” last year, Starlight Stage Productions are set to thrill Kilkenny audiences once again with an Irish Amateur Premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman’s “Whistle Down the Wind”.
Described by the critics as Lloyd Webber’s “best show since Phantom” the musical is an extraordinary and uplifting tale about the transforming power of love. It is based on the beloved sixties film and features numerous award-winning songs, including Boyzone’s international hit No Matter What.
In a twist of fate the bright-eyed and youthful Swallow discovers a mysterious man hiding in her family’s barn. When she asks for his identity the first words he utters are ‘Jesus Christ’…and it’s as though her prayers have been answered. For four performances at the Watergate between 20th September 20 and 23 audiences will be treated to a show that is both visually and musically stunning directed by Jason Paul Ryan and Sharon Molloy, with musical direction from Stefan Jordan Doyle and Choreography from Aine Molloy.
Starlight Stage Productions have built a good relationship with Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful company in London which enabled them to negotiate for the Irish Premiere rights. Previous Lloyd Webber shows produced by Starlight are “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” in 2006, “The Likes Of Us” in 2009 and “Jesus Christ Superstar” in 2010.
The show stars Amy Mulholland as Swallow with Jason Paul Ryan as The Man. Ciaran O’Neill and Emily Mulally Trotman play the roles of the teenagers Amos and Candy, with Niall Bambrick as the children’s father Boone. The two young stars of the show are Cian Ryan (aged 9) playing Poor Baby and Laura Whelan (aged 11) playing Brat. There is also a wonderful children’s ensemble of talented young Starlight Stage School students.
