Danny O’ Carroll and Paddy Houlihan - aka Buster Brady and Dermot Brown from the smash hit TV series Mrs Browns Boys - are launching new careers on radio.

The pair, cast members of show which recorded in excess of 14 million viewers in Ireland and the UK on Christmas Day are to present a new show called “Danny and Paddy Go Local” on KCLR 96fm, the local radio station for Kilkenny.

The idea for the show came about following conversations between management at the station and the two actors known for their onscreen mischief, unlikely escapades and hilarious interaction with the biggest Star on Irish or British television at the moment – Mrs Brown the character written and performed by Brendan O’ Carroll.

“Danny and Paddy Go Local” will see the pair go on air with KCLR for a series of special programmes broadcast for four Friday afternoons beginning on January 25.

The format of the show is aimed at maximising craic, interaction and banter between the two hugely popular personalities and the people of all ages who have made them such stars on television. “Danny and Paddy Go Local” will feature on air games and competitions; a no holds barred talent competition; a “serious” interview with well- known local figures from Kilkenny as well as music, celebrity interviews and ……… the general fun and madness that characterise the characters of Buster and Dermot on Mrs Browns Boys.

Three of the four shows will be broadcast from venues around Kilkenny and Carlow with the series kicking off with a special programme live from KCLR’s Broadcast Centre.

“Radio is something we’ve always wanted to do,” says Danny O’ Carroll one half of the duo who as well as being one half of the Buster and Dermot pair on TV is in reality a life- long friend of his on air partner Paddy Houlihan “We’re really excited to be joining the crew at KCLR and to kick off our new careers at the station.”

“Fun and frolics are guaranteed,” according to Paddy Houlihan “We’ve had a blast planning the show and we’re confident that some of the things we’ll get up to on KCLR will push new frontiers for radio broadcasting not only in Ireland but in the World.”

KCLR says that although the idea for the new programme has only just been announced, reaction so far has been very positive.

“Danny and Paddy have taken to radio like ducks to water,” according to KCLR CEO John Purcell “We’re confident that we’ll have a hit on our hands with this new show and we’re hoping that in years to come when the lads have mirrored their TV success with fantastic radio careers , we’ll have great memories of them starting with us on KCLR”.

The new series “Danny and Paddy Go Local” starts with a fantastic “open to the public inside outside” broadcast from the offices of KCLR in Kilkenny.

“We’re kicking off the series with a really special programme in KCLR’s Kilkenny Broadcast Centre whereby Danny and Paddy will roam our building meeting people, interviewing guests and causing mayhem. We’ll have musicians, food and fun for all. We’ll have dozens of guests of the station in the studio and it promises to be great. The one thing we expect is that it won’t be like what we expect!” he said.

Admission to this first event is by ticket only and already people have started to contact the station seeking to get their hands on what promises to be the hottest ticket around according to John Purcell of KCLR.

After the first Show, Danny and Paddy will be hitting the road around Carlow and Kilkenny with the KCLR Crew putting on fantastic shows from various venues across the two counties when people will have the opportunity to see the stars “up close and personal”. Details of the venues will be announced in the next few days.

The “Danny and Paddy Go Local” begins on KCLR on Friday January 25th. People wishing to apply for tickets should tune into KCLR for details as to how they can get their hands on tickets. Listeners outside Carlow Kilkenny can get more information and listen to the programme on
