Congratulations-to Fort Rangers player, Emmet Nugent who capped a tremendous season by being named Kilkenny Under-17 player of the Year for 2011/2012. This award was fully deserved and all in the club are delighted for the player. Fort Rangers will hold the awarding of the Under-17 league winners and cup runners up medals at a presentation evening in The Grange Inn on Friday 15 June 15 at 7.30pm. The Under-17 and junior club players of the year will be announced also that evening. Congratulations also goes to the Fort Rangers Under-11 team that took part in the Freshford Town mini Euro 12 tournament that took place last Sunday as part of Freshford’s annual field day. The local boys swept all before them to win the tournament outright.They are a credit to themselves, the club and their managers Martin Delahunty and Tommy Farrell.

FUN RUN - Churchill N.S. FunRun / Race will be held on Sunday June 10 .Start of race is 12.20. Registration is on the day starting at 11.am, pre-registration is starting next Tuesday 28th May 28 at 6.30pm in Danesfort running track and will continue every Tuesday and Friday at 6.30 until the event. Entry fees are €15 pp, €10 pp for groups (5 people and over), €25 per family and €10 per student. There will be refreshments during and after and lots of family fun

CANCER FUND RAISER - Danesfort ICA are having an Open Night on Tuesday June 5 in the Danesfort Community Centre at 8 pm. There will be an Art and Craft Exhibition and Rose Harris from Homefocus will give a Craft Demonstration. Entry €5 including refreshments and all monies raised will go to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute in Galway. We would like to welcome all our neighbours and friends to support this worthy cause and enjoy a really good night out.
CAMOGIE - Congratulations to Danesfort schools camogie team who had a very convincing win over St. Canice’s B in the schools league winning 3-04 to 1-00 last Wednesday. Danesfort are now through to the quarter finals of the league.Well done to all the players and the managers and trainers Liz Ryan, Kay Brophy and Tommy Farrell.
KARATE - Karate Club meet Every Tuesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm in Danesfort Community Centre for boys and girls 4 to 12 year olds. . There will be a strong focus on physical fitness, with plenty of fun and games incorporated into the classes. Karate has many proven benefits for kids both physical and mentally. The Physical benefits include better movement and control, improved flexibility, increased fitness and the ability to protect oneself. GOING STRONG - There will be no meeting of the Going Strong Club today as members and friends travel on their annual outing and all are wished a safe and enjoyable day. Next meeting is Wednesday June 6 at 11.00am in Danesfort Community Centre. The Club is a social gathering of friends and neighbours with a strong emphasis on fun, laughter, positivity and creativity. The members share views, experiences, ideas and skills. This year they hope to have a Going Strong Club exhibition at the Annual Field Day.

YOGA - Yoga classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Danesfort Community Centre at 10.00am. Regular yoga increases your overall flexibility. JOB SEARCH - A Job Search Workshop will take place in Droichead Family Resource Centre in Callan : This is an informal workshop that offers practical tips to people to improve their chances of gaining employment. During the day topics will include Skills Identification, CV preparation, cover letters, interview techniques, job search, work placement opportunities etc. The workshop will be in a relaxed informal atmosphere. The training is designed to support individuals, voluntary groups and committees and is suitable for those with or without prior experience. This Inclusive Cultural Training Initiative will include “Inspiring your Community” – A Training and Mentoring Programme for Cultural Promotion, Management and Administration. Cultural Skills Development - short training courses in Web Design, Tech Production skills, Film Making for communities, Animation, Circus Skills, Street Theatre skills and moreAn introductory session to “Inspiring your Community” will be held Wednesday 30th May 2012 in the Friary in Callan at 7.00pm by Mentor/Facilitator Conor O’ Leary of Artlands.ThisTrainingandMentoring Programme will - Focus on how participants can enhance the cultural and community life of their local areas - Assist participants to develop ideas for actual projects and events - Encourage participants to organize events as part of the Abhainn Rí Festival 2012/3 Topics will include, How to generate new ideas, Event planning, Promotion and Scheduling, Budgeting, Funding, Insurance, Sustainability and Resilience, Effective volunteer organization and Recruitment, Mapping your local cultural and community resources, How to involve the community.
