UNDER 14 FOOTBALL FINAL - Congrats to the Lisdowney Under 14 Gaelic Football Team who had a decisive win over the Emeralds of Urlingford in the final on Saturday in Freshford. The team lined out with Liam Dunphy in goal, Mark Fitzpatrick, Kevin O’Sullivan, Conor Tallis, David Fitzpatrick, Stephen Delaney, Laurence Campion, David O’Carroll, James Phelan, Niall Brennan, Brian Kavanagh, Gary O’Sullivan, Jack McGree, Ben Tallis and Jack McGree. Although the first ten minutes saw some pretty equal football and it looked like it was to be a tough match, after 15 minutes Lisdowney were up 3:1 to a point, and were really in control of the game. Half time score was 4:4 to 3 points, and the full time score reached 5:9 to 2:7. Captain Liam Dunphy returned to the squad on the day to pick up the cup, after an illness. JUNIOR HURLING - Last Wednesday saw Lisdowney suffer defeat at the hands of Cloneen in the League. The score was 2:10 to 15 points and was a bitter blow to the side, dropping them to third place in the league table and putting Cloneen on top. The Lisdowney Junior team travelled to Croke Park this weekend to participate in a fitness assessment.
U14 CAMOGIE - The U14 Camogie Team travelled to Railyard last Monday and played Castlecomer in what proved to be a very good win for the away side. They were up 3:0 to 1:1 at half time and finished on a score of 4:5 to 1:2. For a full match report see lisdowney website www.lisdowney.kilkenny.gaa.ie . SCHOOLS CAMOGIE - This super little team reached the Roinn C semi final when they convincingly beat Graiguenamanagh 5:4 to 2:1 last Wednesday.
CAMOGIE - Well done to the Lisdowney Under 8s and Under 10s team who played a thoroughly enjoyable game against Freshford on Saturday amid glorious sunshine. The team played exceptionally. The game ended in a draw.
PILTOWN TICKETS - Piltown tickets are on sale through any committee member this week. This well-established draw gives each participant six chances to win a car while benefitting the GAA club. The more tickets the club sells, the more money they receive, so please help out by buying a ticket.
MINI SEVENS - The Lisdowney Mini Sevens takes place this weekend. The preliminary rounds will be run off on Saturday with the finals on Sunday morning at 10am. This very popular tournament has been brought forward from the former September time, which was proving too difficult with club matches. It includes children from Under 13 to 2nd class. The Captains this year are Laurence Campion, Ben Tallis, Mark Fitzpatrick, Eimear Walsh, Niall Brennan and Emma McEvoy. Good luck to all the teams.
LISDOWNEY SEVENS - This well renowned and very popular tournament, which again was held on three weekends in September, is now to be run off on the last two weekends of July, and the first weekend in August - again to accommodate the very busy underage club scene in September. It is hoped that even more clubs will participate this year than previous years.
BBQ - The last Saturday in June has been ticked for the Hurling Club’s summer bar-b-que in Mackey’s of Gathbawn. Please show up on the night and support.
COMHALTAS - The Kilkenny Fleadh was held in the Ormonde Hotel last weekend and saw a large number of Lisdowney children participate, and do exceptionally well. The children participated in the Groupai Ceoil and received gold medals for their efforts. Jack and Liam Dunphy played with the Ceili Band “Timpeal Knock” and go forward to represent Kilkenny in the Leinster Fleadh.
Other winners on the day were U12 Flute: James Phelan; Under 12 Tin Whistle: James Phelan (first) and Holly Moore (second). The Under 12 Beginner whistle was won by Shane Grace, with Eddie Cahill coming second , John Joe Kelly and Liam Dunphy came first and second in the Under 15 Bodhran. Jack Dunphy won the Under 18 Banjo. Jack Grace came first in the Under 10 bodhran with Terese Kelly in second place. In the Under 10 category, Shane Grace came second on the box. Congratulations to all the children who participated. It is not easy to get up and perform in front of an audience and judges, and all the children deserve great credit for their efforts.
REELING IN THE YEARS - This weekend, Gathabawn will celebrate ‘Reeling in the Years’ with a presentation in Gathabawn Church on Saturday (2nd June 2012) at 8.30 pm. Mass in thanksgiving for the refurbishment of Scoil na Crion Coille will be celebrated in Gathabawn Church on Sunday (3rd June 2012) at 11 am, followed by a short blessing at the school, the cutting of the ribbon and the raising of the new Green Flag. The Gathabawn Choir will take part in Mass on Sunday.

COMMUNITY GAMES - Well done to the Lisdowney Under 14 Community Games Quiz Team who represented County Kilkenny at the Community Games National Finals in Athlone at the weekend. The team - Eimear Walsh, Ciara Doyle, Ellen O’Carroll and Mairead Kennedy - came 11th out of 25 teams. Well done also to Sam Walshe who represented County Kilkenny in the Art Competition at the National Finals. The Lisdowney Community Games Committee wishes to congratulate both the quiz team and Sam on their success.
CONFIRMATION - The children from the parish who received Confirmation in February were presented with special certificates at Mass in Lisdowney Church on Saturday night, to mark the fact that they were confirmed in the year the Eucharistic Congress was held in Ireland.
CONGRATS - Congrats to the family of Daniel Anthony Bryan, Seskin Little, who was baptised last weekend.
BAPTISMAL REUNION - A Baptismal Reunion of those baptised in Lisdowney parish since the 1st January 2011, will be held tonight (Wednesday, 30th May 2012) in Lisdowney Resource Centre at 7.30 pm.
WHOLE SCHOOL EVALUATION - A Whole School Evaluation will take place in Scoil Na Crion Coille, Gathabawn, on Monday and Tuesday, 11th and 12th June 2012. The Department of Education and Skills Inspector will hold Pre-Evaluation meetings on the 5th June with the teachers, Parents’ Council and Board of Management. The Inspector will meet them again later in the month.
LISDOWNEY LOTTO- There was no winner of last week’s Lisdowney GAA and Camogie Club Lotto Draw. Numbers drawn were 3, 9, 11 and 25. Match 3 winners were Pat Phelan, Bernie Blanchfield, the O’Sullian family, and Liam and Jack Dunphy. Next week’s jackpot is €3,400. The draw will held in Mackey’s Bar, Gathabawn, on Tuesday, 5th June 2012.

AFTERNOON CLUB SUMMER OUTING - The Afternoon Club Summer Outing will take place tomorrow (Thursday, 31st May 2012). The bus will leave for the Bloom Flower Show in the Phoenix Park from Ballyragget at 9 am, Lisdowney at 9.15 am and Gathabawn at 9.30 am (after Mass at 9.10 am).
SOCCER SUCCESS - A number of local underage soccer players were awarded with trophies and medals for their success in their various teams during the season at the Freshford Town Soccer Club Field Day and Award Ceremony on Sunday. A Mini Under 11s European Championship was held to coincide with the day, with two Freshford teams coming second and third place. The event was won by Fort Rangers.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS - A free bus to Croke Park has been organised for the Eucharistic Congress Mass on the 17th June 2012. Names for the bus should be given to Eilis Costelloe as soon as possible. Tickets for the Eucharistic Congress Mass on the 17th June 2012 are available to purchase for €40 by calling 01-2981122. Parishes, schools and homes are encouraged to decorate their premises to welcome the Eucharistic Congress to Ireland. Irish Rail/Iarnrod Eireann will operate special trains for pilgrims from Waterford/Kilkenny going to the Eucharistic Congress.Train Times are as follows: Tuesday, 12th June Leaving Waterford 6.40 am, Thomastown 7.03, Kilkenny 07.18, Muine Bheag7.37 arriving in Sandymount (5 mins walk from RDS) Dublin at approx.9.30am. The return train leaves Sandymount station at 10 pm. Sunday, 17th June 2012: Leaving Waterford 9.35am, Thomastown 9.58. Kilkenny 10.13, Muine Bheag10.31 arriving at Connolly Station (10 minutes walk from Croke Park) at 12midday. The return train leaves Connolly at 6.10 pm. For these trains to run, booking is essential and needs to be done immediately. As part of the preparation for the Eucharistic Congress, there will be adoration every Friday evening in Lisdowney Church from 7 - 8 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Friday evenings at 8 pm.
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION - A Parish Corpus Christ Procession will be held on Thursday, 7th June 2012, beginning at 7 pm from Lisdowney Church to Lisdowney GAA Grounds, followed by an open air Mass.
CLEAN UP - Lisdowney Development Association is looking for volunteers to help clean up the village and surrounding roads ahead of the Corpus Christi procession. Volunteers are asked to meet tomorrow night (Thursday, 31st May 2012) at 7.30 pm. Rubbish bags and gloves will be provided.
CEMETERY MASSES - Cemetery Masses will be held in Lisdowney on Friday, 6th July 2012, Rathbeagh on Monday, 9th July 2012, Tifeaghna on Wednesday, 11th July 2012, Clontubrid on Tuesday, 17th July 2012 and Aharney on Friday, 20th July 2012. All masses will commence at 7.30 pm.
MUINTIR NA TIRE - Muintir na Tire will hold a conference to mark its 75th anniversary tomorrow (Thursday, 31st May 2012) in Glenstal Abbey, Murroe, Co. Limerick. The event will open with the AGM.
SEMINAR FOR PARENTS - Kilkenny County Childcare Committee are holding a Free Parents Seminar for parents of children aged from birth to six years on the 11th June 2012 in Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel from 7pm-9.30pm.
