Darklight Festival, which celebrates independent, DIY, animation and artist films, has gone national for the first time, bringing the best local talent to the big screen.
Darklight On Tour arrives at The Set Theatre on Saturday where they will team up with the Oscar-nominated animators from Cartoon Saloon to present a day and evening event celebrating the best of local and national filmmaking talents. Whether you’re a filmmaker or animator, aspiring or graduate, you can look forward to: filmmaking workshops, panel discussions, and ‘Show and Tell’ discussions of the ins and outs of film production, meeting local filmmakers and animators, alongside national and international guests.
There will also be screenings of work from Kilkenny and across Ireland curated by Cartoon Saloon and the Darklight Festival and a very special party to round out the day with very special musical guests.
Nicky Gogan, Darklight Festival Director said: “As a follow on from New Indie Voices last year, which focused on emerging talent from all over Ireland, we decided to take Darklight on the road, bringing the best of Darklight country-wide and forging further connections with Irish filmmaking communities.”
Darklight On Tour will take place from 11am until late in The Set Theatre and Cleere’s. Tickets are €10.00 and are on sale now. See www.kilkennyarts.ie for more.
Darklight Festival is Ireland’s premier festival celebrating independent, DIY and artist films since 1999 in Dublin. Darklight’s mission is to nurture new talent and to create new possibilities for the imagination. They will work alongside Academy-award-nominated Cartoon Saloon which is based in the city. It began as an informal partnership among a group of animators brought together by Paul Young and Tomm Moore in 1999 and has since grown into a multi-award-winning animation and illustration design studio. The studio works with many diverse international clients such as Disney, BBC and the Cartoon Network. Darklight is primarily funded by the Arts Council of Ireland.
